      Hey Mark,
Unfortunately, I opted not to get the VGA pass-through, thinking at some point I might mount the projector to the ceiling (possibly in an auditorium) and I wouldn’t have access to the VGA port, or would have to install a distribution amplifier and a long cable back the workstation area. I had resigned myself to not being able to have a 2nd monitor display the signal until I received an email a few months back about the DVI splitter. It’s only $50, so maybe I’ll get it and experiment to see if it works. I was hoping someone may have done it before. Thanks for your response!

Her Task Manager list showed Lex…. running which reminded me of the problem I had, in Debby’s case, it might not only be non-essential, but also contributing to her problem….don’t know why she’d have them with a Xerox printer…..

      Joe,
The previous posts in the thread recommended removing all non-essential programs to see if that affects her logoff problems, at the very least, she should remove the files if she doesn’t have any need for them. I’ve had the same problem and narrowed it down to those drivers, so I guess I’m not sure where you’re going with your post. Have you had a different experience?

      Debby,
Have you had any success fixing the problem?

      Hello Debby,

This problem starting happening on my PC at home as well. I’ve had WinXP Pro installed for several months now, without any problems, and about a month ago, I hit Shutdown and went to bed. Woke up the next morning and the desktop was still up — thought I was going crazy until it happened again. I checked the Event log and it showed that both shutdown attempts had failed…didn’t list a reason, and the error code doesn’t come up with anything in Windows help. It’s happened more often, almost once/day now, but at random times — really annoying as it forces a hard reboot just to log off and change users.

So I began shutting down threads manually until the computer would shutdown and I think I’ve narrowed it down to my Lexmark printer drivers/Control Panel. I say “I think” because I’ve only tested it twice, but both times, I manually shut down the Lexmark threads and I was able to log off without any problems after it had previously failed.

I started writing this post as a guess, but then checked back with your list of running apps and you have a Lexmark as well — maybe that’s part of your problem too. Did you recently upgrade your printer drivers, or did WinXP Automatic Update do it for you? The programs are “LexPPS” and “LexBceS” listed in your Task Manager. You can try shutting them down and see if it helps. Not sure which one if either is the actual culprit yet — I’ve stopped both of them both times I tried.

I’m going to check around on the web and see if I find any problems with my version of the drivers for my printer, I’ll post back if I find anything that might help you. It may have something to do with the USB port, or the power, or printing errors, not sure yet.

I can set Outlook to retrieve the pop3 messages by setting up an internet mail service, but I’m on an echange server, and I think that effectively gives me two server connections to the same account. I’m just using my notebook, when in the office, I connect with the ethernet card, when on the road, via modem.

If I dial directly into our exchange server, there doesn’t seem to be a problem (besides taking forever to synchronize!). The problem is when I’m out of the country — I’m trying to go through a local ISP, and can’t find any information on setting Outlook or Exchange for this configuration and our systems people don’t seem to know either.

      Thanks for the reply!
