AskWoody LoungerHi all
Thanks to everyone for all your suggestions as a result I was able to fix the problem which was as most of you had suggested a wire had come lose. The reason I didn’t see it sooner was that it had curled behind the ribbon wire to the HDD.
So one again thanks so much
Cheers

AskWoody LoungerHi Rory
That’s interesting as I only just noticed that there isn’t any of the usual beeps or other sounds for that matter, when starting all that happens is the HDD light stays on continuously not even anything on the screen.
Does that give you any ideas?

AskWoody LoungerHi Hans
Thanks again, I checked out the link you sent me and unfortunately still not working.
In the link it mentioned to delete the following:
C:Documents and SettingsDaxLocal SettingsTemporary internet filesolk
The folder will start with OLK and have some other numbers/characters.
But I don’t have such a folder, so am not sure what to do nextCheers

AskWoody LoungerHi Hans
You are a champion and I’m a complete dill……. I must have missed your note about the video card driver the first time I read your response, when I went to reply I noticed your reference to updating the driver, so went and did that and of course that was the problem.
Sorry to have @#$!% you and Dave around, next time I’ll read replies twice before I do anything else.
Thanks again and keep up the great work in the lounge as I’m sure there are heaps of dills like me out there that would be right up the creek without a paddle if it wasn’t for guys like you, Dave and others.
Cheers

AskWoody LoungerThanks for the reply Hans
You are correct when I moved the slider a notch and then a second time to the left it worked in Word and Excel but not in Publisher or PowerPoint.
Any suggestions how to get Publisher and PowerPoint to work?Cheers

AskWoody LoungerHi
I’ve just managed to do a screendump showing what my icon now look like both the desktop ones and ones in the start menu (See attached). If I click on any of the icons nothing happens, however if I go into My Computer and double click on say a word document it opens word and lets me do everything.
It appears it could be that all the icons have lost there link to the exe file, however when I click on an exe file in My Computer again nothing happens.I hope this additional information can help someone out there help me
Cheers
