    • I have tried many suggestions but I still get the message, “We can’t create a recovery drive”

I’ve turned off antivirus, malwarebytes, tried with a blank dual layer DVD, and a new 16G USB drive. Endlessly!

      Please help

    • in reply to: Some installation woes with Windows 7 SP1 #1270012

A word of warning. Don’t install it if you have a lot of language
packs installed. I had many installed and the SP1 (Win 7 64 Ultimate)
      trashed my HD.
I couldn’t safe boot, nor could I do a restore when booting form the
installation DVD. Some people reported that safe boot loaded if one
waited 10 to 15 min. Well I tried a few times waitnig up to an hour
for safe boot, without success. I found the offending file
(pending.xml). I booted to DOS from my installation DVD, and could
apply the recommended edit, but the DOS interface would not let me
save to that folder. I booted using a live Linux disk, but still
      could not apply the patch.
As others found, the failed SP1 installation either blocked System
Restore or had dealeted the restore points. (Acessed by booting from
      the installation DVD)
A command line starting with DSIM was supposed to help, but didn’t on
      my PC.
I spent 20 hours apply the many suggested fixes, none of which worked
for me. I am now gradually restoring everything, after a reformat.
I recently added a new MOBO, cpu and memory, and my last image was
before I did the hardware upgrade. 🙁 &^%%^%&*(&^!!!!!!
The problem is widespread. Google C000009A

      Hi Clint,

Yes I do use the exclusion rules, but NIS 2010 falsely found about 8 files that were infected. These were all .exe and .dll files from trusted (legal) sources. I put all these files through different on line scans and the files were clean.

All I want is what AV software offers, Remove, Ignore. Default.

      Thanks for the feedback

      Hi Robin,
I am not really worried about false virus finds, rather that we are not presented with Remove, Ignore, or Default option

I did experiment with Kaspersky, but it slowed my system more than I was happy with. And I would like reviews (particularly Windows Secrets) to cover this issue. Support forums are not the issue for me. I simply want the Remove, Ignore, or Default option. MSE does this. So I am still interested in which packages allow this. Kaspersky?

      In particular
Now you can set the tuner priority by moving your prefered tuner up or down the list.

Poking in WMC with two TV Tuners I get this

      http://i283.photobucket.com/albums/kk297/Oldbloke49/Scratch/13-03-20107-01-38PM.jpg

So WMC in Win 7 is seeing two tuner cards. Alas, we have had extreme winds in the last few days and I now have no signal ferom my TV aerial. So I can’t keep trying to understand it all

I am grateful to all the people that have sent advice. I will need to try it now. Many thanks.

Chet, I am thinking about extenders also. I am told the N routers are fast enough for DVD but not for Blueray. And Chet, can you confirm that WMC allows one to select which tuner to use, and switch between tuners?

Bryan, I have never been able to get the EPG to work. I must try again.
