I’m currently running Windows 8.1 and even though you can’t see the “show desktop” button, it’s to the right of the system clock in the bottom right of the task bar. If you click in the blank area next to the system clock, it will show/hide the desktop.

After you click “Continue to Website (not recommended)” in internet explorer, you should see a red shield with an “x” if you click on that, it should tell you what the error of the certificate is. I have attached a sample image of what the error window should look like. Can you open the error message and let us know what it states, or attach a screen shot of the error message?

    • in reply to: Sharing hard drives – permission issue #1353525

When you request a network asset from another machine, that machine looks for your credentials on the machine from which the request has been made. If you’re not logging on, there are no credentials available, so you’re prompted for a password.

From which machine did you initiate the network?

I apologize for any confusion, but I don’t have a problem I only offered a solution. I wanted to be able to share an entire drive, when attempting to do so, the only option available was “advanced sharing”. After enabling the share I was unable to access the it because it stated that I didn’t have the proper permissions. I enabled full control for “Everyone” and turned off password protected sharing, but that didn’t fix the problem. So I went into the “Security” tab for the drive and added “Everyone” with full control.

After doing that, the share was accessible through the network without needing a password.

I know this is an old thread, but I ran into the problem when trying to share one of my hard drives between windows 7 pro and windows 8 pro and the only option allowed was “Advanced Sharing”. I was able to solve it by not only changing the permissions on the share to everyone, but also going to the security tab and adding everyone to it as well with full access.

Also, I do not use homegroups nor do I have password sharing enabled.

      I hope this helps.
