      Yes, it’s a field code. An example of the code (of a working ref) is { REF _Ref67204087 w * MERGEFORMAT }

F9 has not worked for updating the “0” to the correct number. Of course, now that I’m trying to see the field code behind the 0, I can’t duplicate the problem. (It’s a recurring problem, honest!) When I can duplicate the problem, I’ll post again.

      Thanks,
      Erik

      Shortcuts! Great idea!

Worked perfectly. Many thanks to both who contributed answers. I don’t have the network rights for permissions, so for me the shortcuts are the way to go.

Good idea! Easiest if the sample is already pointing in the desired direction, but rotation brings it pretty close (not exact).

Using SnagIt (I was unable to connect to the IrfanView server), I was able to do what I needed to do. Many thanks!

Sorry, I’m used to boards that don’t permit attachments so I didn’t think to post (although the option is clear). A sample Word file is attached. Many thanks.

    • in reply to: Copying bulleted styles (2002 SP-2) #743561

Thanks, Phil, for this orientation to style copying. In various documents I have given different formatting characteristics to styles with the same name. I can see I’ll have to rethink my approach if I’m to copy easily where numbering is concerned. I appreciate the explanation.
      Cheers,
      Erik

      Thanks, Phil.

Your solution works as described. But all the renaming and un-renaming (since I like the style names I have) is a bit tedious. Are we not meant to copy styles from one document to another? The question sounds flip, but I mean it seriously: I often come up with styles on the fly in a single document, and want to use them again without necessarily creating a template. Is my approach too idiosyncratic?

      Cheers,
      Erik

    • Just coming back to this project…

Thanks for the suggestion and for your expertise. I’ll give the macro a try and let you know how it goes.

    • in reply to: Track changes: 1 user not tracked (2000/SR1) #629936

I did not find the cause. Your suggestion to (1) make copies, (2) accept all changes, and then (3) compare documents proved to be an adequate workaround. Thanks again. Erik
