    • in reply to: What is most compatible move up from XP? #1436424

I myself just went through the same thing with my desktop…an older Dell that was running XP. My wife was comfortable with that OS but was familiar with Win7 also at her work. What I was concerned with was security, as my wife uses the desktop to pay bills online. With XP support drying up this year, I agonized over upgrading to Win7, or just buying a new computer with Win8 on it. After a lot of research and waiting for deals on new computers, I finally bought a new HP that came with Win8 on it. Turns out, it wasn’t as painful as I thought it was going to be. I upgraded to 8.1, then installed all my software. It took a couple of days to wipe all the garbage that came with the computer and get it set up the way I wanted, but I feel much more secure about paying bills online. I also know that I won’t have to upgrade Windows or my computer for quite a while, (security updates, etc. aside). As Bassfisher6522 noted, I picked up Smart8 and am now operating in a familiar and comfortable environment.

I read in Popular Mechanics that a couple of younguns have done just that…invented a protective cover for the iPhone that has a bottle opened on the back!

People entering the freeway going 30 miles an hour…even worse, stopping on the onramp.

People that can’t spell even the simplest of words (or punctuate properly)…especially those in managerial positions.

People that don’t even have an ounce of common sense (especially prevalent these days!).

Another great (free) photo-editing program is called PhotoFiltre (http://photofiltre.free.fr/frames_en.htm). I use it to tweak all my photos, and I’ve used at work when I’ve needed to point out something in a photo, then put the photo(s) in a powerpoint program. For a free program, it’s very powerful and I like it better than the other four, myself.

I would put something lke that on a par with coming to a website and it automatically starts playing music, I absolutely HATE that! Unless that website has something I really need, that is almost always the last time I ever visit it. And even if it has something I need, either a product or some information, I get what I need and get out, never to return.

      Hi all

Late to the party as usual.

I have been using Shrink Pic (Download here) which I leave running and automatically reduces pictures as I add them to my emails. I can ony guess that I found it as a freware in these forums.

      Excellent referral, B.!

I had over 35 pictures I needed to send to my real estate agent, so I came here looking for help. I downloaded Shrink Pic, saw the quick tutorial, then started attaching my photos, two emails with about 18 photos each and I was done! Shrink Pic worked effortlessly behind the scenes shrinking my photos. The original size of all the photos together was over almost 14M and the program reduced them down to a little over 3.5M!

      Incredible!!!
