Thanks for the quick answer, Steve. That works just fine. You would think MS would make it a selectable one-step solution, since all the options are there in the dialog box already! But this will solve my problem at any rate.
      Thanks again!

      Doug,
Thanks for repeating the link … it was the one I had tried, resulting in a blank page. I ran down the problem in as much as it only happens on my Mac with IE5.2.3. When I switched to Safari, the page displayed normally.
Thanks again for your help, I found the page very informative.

5{ for the quick reply … I’m sure this is just what I need! I tried to access “Cindy’s MailMerge FAQ” but the link does not display anything. Thought it might be a good review of issues.
Thanks again for the help, I’ll let you know how we do!

Redbeard, thanks for the reply. Yes, the tool bar does show Merge to Printer, but it does not work. Only the Merge to new document works, and it seems an unecessary step to a very large file. Also, we tried putting the dollar sign into the merge document, but the numbers are still fouled up. Does any one think it may be an ODBC vs data source method of merging issue? It is a problem on all our installations of Office XP, so perhaps we need to modify our setups? The same documents, Excel files and printer work fine in Office 2000 SP-1.
      Thanks for any input!

Thanks guys! That makes a lot of sense, Wendell. You come through yet again! I’m not thrilled with Passport. I wonder if its the reason some of my little old ladies on Internet appliances are having fits trying to keep up with the e-mail protocol changes? They’re on WinCE on those devices and since about last November I have been spending quite a bit of time with tech support on their behalf. The first level support is getting younger and more naive, it seems. I’m always waiting for them to come back from a more senior advisor!
      Thanks again!

Boy do a lot of us ever need this! I found 2 applications that are low cost, but neither serve my purpose. I want to archive my pst, e.g. quarterly, and have it saved to txt or rtf or html or something I can browse and sort with when I’m trying to find something. I would like it to include attachments, even if I have to use the original application to view them. One archiver I found seems stable and useful because it compresses the archive, but it makes a proprietary file you need to restore to use. You might check it out at AJSystems.com, its called OutbackPlus. A second offering that seems much closer to what I’m looking for is SMTArchivER at smtechnologies.com…. but it only works with Win2000 or NT. Since I use Win98SE right now, that is not a solution either. Most really useful sounding tools seem to be for MS Exchange administrators, not the individual user. I would love to hear of any other reasonably priced tools!

      Thanks Wendell,
We used to use Shelby for one of our stand alone ministries, back when it was a DOS upgrade to Win3.1. I spent lots of hours fixing stuff and interfacing printers. I have not looked at it in several years, but I’m sure its a fine product. Our Director of IT is just returning from a sabbatical the 1st of August and this is one of many issues we need to address. We’ve also looked at CMS and others, some have slicker interfaces, but all seem pretty pricey for what they offer. That’s why I was curious about file and record # limits. If we use the existing accounting backend with SQL Server, the browser interface may suffice just fine and would be a lot less costly.
      Thanks again for your interest,
      Gloria

      Thanks Wendell, Yeah, I’m grandparently!
The use of FrontPage would be for Intranet, but its nice to know the number of user “limits”. I have looked at many CM (Church Management) programs and I agree, most have clunky interfaces, and many are overpriced and not particularly interested in customizing for our use. OBTW, You helped me a couple of months ago to move legacy CSV files from our AS/400 to Access for a membership reaffirmation project we had going, remember the Julian dates? It worked out great, I was able to create nested tables and provide a custom query for a report that the tech staff created and used for the dinners. Our 400 is aging and we use and older version of JDE on it for the membership and as a bulletproof accounting program. They now want to add pictures to a browser based query for the senior pastors to use, and I was planning to use FrontPage to do that, since JDE is exhorbitant on their upgrade costs for a version that would do that kind of thing. We are thinking of dumping updates, say weekly, to an Access file, as they only need a passive display at this time. But we also use other apps, like EMS for facilities scheduling, and the number of records skyrockets over the course of a year. EMS tells us that we need to move to EnterPrise versions to handle all the queries and scheduling activity, so the metrics are helpful to try to make decisions on expenditures with a limited budget. I appreciate your interest and comments!

Thanks folks! It was not the 10,000 that really worried me so much as the 100,000 we usually end up with by the end of the year and what I had read mentioning 10,000 records as a kind of milestone. Would these limits also apply to a database we might access using FrontPage2002 for browser display?
      Thanks again!

    • in reply to: FP Version to Buy? (FP 2000 or 2002) #597563

      Melissa,
Thanks for the input. We went ahead and bought FP2002 and are now learning to use it. By the way, the “FrontPage 2000 Bible” is an excellent reference, especially in using backend databases. Most references I looked at leave it out or gloss over it. In addition, for our pictures, MS put out an Assistance Center document “Display a Picture Using an Existing Database in FrontPage 2002”. Its a little convoluted, but looks simple enough to do and sounds like just what we need without having to get into programming!
      Thanks again for the response!

Thanks for the info, I appreciate hearing from someone using 2002 with Office 2000. I think we’ll go ahead with that version. As to publishing the database, from what I’ve read, if we don’t get too fancy it seems like Access is compatible if we use the ODBC interface. I can get help there if I need it.
Thanks again for taking the time to answer!
