      John.
      the model is an E196G.
The thing is if I use my laptop as the server for my network it all works and as far as I can tell all the settings are the same.
So the modem allows more than one connection.

As if I didn’t have enough reading already!!Very interesting reading but as usual it poses more questions than answers.
Looks like I am up for a lot more reading before I part with the cash.About AUD$385.00 for the 300 Gb.

Thanks to you all for the help…

      Joe.
I think you may have misinterpreted the WD specifications.
I have gone back and re read. I see what you mean.
What I don’t get is the performance bit.I use this computer for surfing and playing games.flight sim x, roam and a few more.
I am not sure I understand what you mean by cache.

      Big Al.
My mistake on the sata 3 slots for ram I was thinking of DDR3 not sata as I have been looking at new mother boards as well.
I have been toying with the Idear of building a new computer as well.[The one I am using now I built about 2 years ago and it is getting a bit slow even wit a few upgrades]. I was checking out hardware online at my local pc shop when I ran across the WD VelociRaptor hard drive.
As for the mother board accepting the sata3 speed I was hoping a lounger my know.It may be simpler to start from scratch.

      Al.
      Thanks for all your help.
I ended up putting my vista disc in and doing a repair. It seems to have fixed the problum.
I did a fresh install on another old pc I hand in the back room.I then checked the defrag files and found that some how one of the .EXE files for defrag had been deleted.
My third party defragger might have done this .I don’t know.
Again thank you for your help.

      Al.
Sorry it has taken so long to reply been busy with work.
I found the .EXE file but I can’t open it with anything except note pad.
When I click on it flickers and that is all it dose. Its just like a program that won’t respond.

      Hans.
      In a word nothing.
When I run through the list and get to disc defragmenter and clik on the tab the start window closes and that is it.

I understand all you are saying.
When I click on the defrag tab all that happens is that the mouse cursour blinks 1 or 2 times. When I check task manager no process are running at all.
I have even enabeled the admin account[the real one]still can’t run defrag.
