For anyone that was interested in the outcome of this thread. I have got sick of typing meaningless updates in reply to unhelpful responses on the vendor’s web site and I have just written to their customer services saying that the computer is not fit for purpose and I want them to take it away and give my money back.

Yes we are interested in the outcome. The same problem may occur on any of our computers. Good luck with the original vendor and I hope you will keep us updated on the outcome

Spyware Doctor is a legitimate program, but I’d try Malwarebytes AntiMalware first.

See Remove Cyber Security (Uninstall Guide) for step-by-step instructions.

Thanks for the reassurance regards Spyware Doctor. I would have gone the Malwarebytes route had I been given the chance. Can you believe my friend is saying ” dont bother coming over my computer is running fine since I paid for Cyber Security” !!!!!! I’ve repeated my views and warnings and have washed my hands of this now

Agree. I reluctantly accepted the previous version when it changed but kind of grew to like it and felt comfortable there. No doubt the same will happen with this one in time. But this is the second time I’ve tried to reply the first one seems to have got lost….definitely an age thing

I hope Jay will check in here and at least try the Kelly’s Korner registry edits since they are reversible if needed. I don’t mean to be rude but all the other methods suggested in this thread are a lot more drawn out than a simple Explorer right-click with those two changes in place.

Just for the heck of it, while I’ve been away from here, I checked my Vista installation and I added those two right-click options to Vista a year ago by way of WinBubbles which is now available for Windows 7.

In the meantime, I applied the two registry edits in my zip file to my (temporary) Windows 7 RC installation and they worked just fine. The two additions for copy and move to folder were added nicely.

      OK, I’m done “preaching.”

Sorry folks for not joining back in earlier but it all got a bit too complicated for me. First off for my particular problem I found that I could create any number of “Batch Process” scripts in my image editor Paint Shop Pro X2. That’s OK for images and as far as other folders are concerned I tried Kelly’s Korner reg edit which worked fine and also reversed back with no apparent problems, I will be using that from now on. Thx for the original link Bigaldoc

Sorry for your frustration! I found what I used to add those two context menu entries and it was a couple of years ago, so I can’t remember where I got this.

The attached ZIP file has two registry mods that will add the two menus I wrote about. I did just now try my example using the search and the “copy to folder” and it works from multiple folders to one without copying folder structure.

      Good luck.

Whoa! Whoa! I know you’ll be interested in this Bigal…….Paint Shop Pro…..just had a flash of memory and of course PSP (or any other image editor I presume) will do a Batch Process. Just had a quick look and it looks like I can open and select any number of files and do a batch process of “copy” to specified place (folder in trhis case). I will try this later and then (am I hoping for too much?) I might be able to resize a bunch of them all at once in the same way.

I’ve never done this from a CD. In order to do it, you’ll probably have to open a separate instance of Windows explorer and a window for the CD contents. It’s worth a try.

Since you can’t copy TO the CD, create the folder you want on the hard drive. Using the search function on the CD, search for all files with a .JPG extension and when you get that list, you might be able to highlight them all and copy to the folder on the hard drive.

One way Ive tried is to open 2 windows with the cd contents and the “new” open folder side by side and selected each pic and dragged it into the new folder. It works of course but this was supposed to be my day off! leaving it for now and try again when I’m less angry

    • in reply to: extracting multiple folder contents to one folder #1182154

Utterly trivial via the Command Prompt window! (Or a BATch file…)

First create your target directory – I’m calling it C:Target Directory – using whatever you like, maybe even MD “C:Target Directory” in a Command Prompt window

Now, in the Command Prompt window, assuming your DVD drive is D:, do
      XCOPY D:*.* “C:Target Directory” /S
If there is other Stuff on the CD, you can change the D:*.* to D:*.JPEG or whatever, to restrict what gets copied (I couldn’t see what the file extension was)…

Nope. got all the folders again instead of the individual pictures

Nice idea. just tried it but even selecting the actual pics from the search when i copy to new folder they end up in individual folders again

    • in reply to: clear address bar history IE8 #1181002

CCleaner does have a separate check box for Recently Typed URLs. You’d have to clear the other check boxes for Internet Explorer if you don’t want to clean the corresponding features.

Never thought of CCleaner, a usefull prog I use and this appears to be the simple soloution. Although regedit is suggested by many I’m not comfortable using that and seems like a sledgehammer to crack what I feel should be a simple nut. Appreciate the imput from everyone.

    • in reply to: clear address bar history IE8 #1180867

If I select Tools | Internet… options, click Delete… (or press the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+Del) and tick only the History check box, then click Delete, this does clear the address bar dropdown list…

Yes but you also lose “all history” of every thingin IE 8…I usually keep mine for 14 days….Im looking to just delete the typed addresses from the drop down in address bar

    • in reply to: clear address bar history IE8 #1180864

Maybe Im entering the wrong search terms but surely there must be a way of deleting the address bar history in IE 8 – you know, the little arrow on the right of the address bar shows a drop down list of past entered addresses, clearing autocomplete and browsing history and all other suggestions within the Internet Options tab doesnt seem to work and from searching for a solution via google etc seems Im not alone on this one. A registry edit is suggested by some but surely there must be a simple way of doing this? Any ideas?

Hmmm…..answering my own question it appears that by clearing the recent list from start menu properties works but it clears all lists. Still cant believe you cant just delete the specific Internet Explorer address bar list

    • in reply to: Word inserts space when field is blank in merge #1177583

Not sure what version of Word you are using but only because I discovered this while trying to make some mail merge labels [post=”793367″]Post 793367[/post] the same thing happens with my data base and I found out it could be to do with “Styles” you would think the “normal” style wouldn’t have spaces, but not so….I have to select the style “no space” and that does the trick for me in getting rid of the blank lines, see here and scroll right the way down the article, dont know if this will help….meanwhile I struggle on with inserting a picture

      from the link:
      Note:
Microsoft appears to have retained the default use of the ‘normal’ paragraph style to format tables; however, in Word 2007, the normal paragraph style has added spacing. This will result in extra spacing between the lines of text in tables. Word uses tables to create labels; however when those labels are created using the label tool the process is supposed to remove that extra spacing. In practice I find that it is not 100% reliable, but that is what is supposed to happen.

The default style set also includes a standard ‘No spacing’ style which is what long standing Word users would have expected to have been the Normal style. Why Microsoft swapped these styles around I cannot say, but …..

You can edit the Normal paragraph style to remove that spacing, just as you can edit any other style, and this will fix the issue for labels you create from the label tool (I would also rename the No Spacing style to Normal Spaced and add to it the spacing you have removed from the normal style); however ……

Even more complicating is the fact that when mail merging labels, although the Normal style is used, extra padding is inserted as direct formatting, by the merge process, before each paragraph. This conspires to screw up the spacing of the paragraphs on your merged labels (see the right hand illustration immediately below this note).

You must take this into consideration when adding merge fields and apply whatever formatting you need to give the presentation you require. One method would be to apply a non-spaced style to the first label before updating the labels. If you have modified the Normal style as mentioned above, you can simply re-apply that Normal style, which has the effect of removing the padding.

The bottom line here is that if your labels have unwanted space, correction is a question of applying the correct formatting.

Have a look at the Page Layout Tab, Arrange Group, Grid Settings…
see if the checkbox marked “Snap objects to grid when the gridlines are not displayed” is set

I have now spent many hours yesterday and this morning trying everything. it could maybe be a setting to do with snapping to margin or grid lines…I cant find it….in fact I’ve given up and gone back to using Word 2000. With blurred eyes and a headache thanks any way for trying to help
