Win98 has a rudimentary implementation of the System File Checker which you can run by clicking Start – Run and entering MSCONFIG
Actually in Win98 you get to the System File Checker by going to Start -Run – and typing in SFC and OK.

AskWoody LoungerJune 7, 2003 at 2:36 am in reply to: Avant Browser V8 Resources Used (Avant Browser V8 Build 728) #683477I tried to tell you about cpu resource problems with Avant a long time ago.
Last time I checked the Avant forum there were two pages on this problem.

AskWoody LoungerAlso, if you have Eudora installed as an email client and you have MS viewer checked in “Viewing Mail” that can cause this problem.
-
WSJayT
AskWoody LoungerI am using Eudora 5.2.1 and that option seems to work for me. Just to check it I just sent myself an emai, then highlighted part of it and replyed to myself. Convoluted I know, but it worked. Only the highlighted portion was included in the reply. In fact it said, “You wrote… and then the selected part of the message was quoted. Is this what you are asking about?

AskWoody LoungerAvant Browser. If you go to their forum pages and do a search you will find pages of complaints about that feature.

AskWoody LoungerThe Avant Browser site is back online again. According to the web hosting page, they didn’t pay their hosting fee so were kicked off. I guess they must have paid it now or found a new host site. Since it is freeware and depends on donations from grateful users, this is not too surprising.

AskWoody LoungerWhat the homepage for this url says is: “These programs all work with Windows 9X operating systems. Some depend on that registry structure and as a result will not work properly with Windows XP. Iecache2.js and MSKB have displayed this problem. Those that are known to work with XP will display XP.”
I assure you that it will work with all flavors of Win9x as well as WinXp

You can download it from here.

AskWoody LoungerIf you are using OE 6.0, this is by design. However, you can overide the default setting. Open OE , go to Tools, Options, Security, uncheck the box which says “Do not allow attachements to be saved or opened that could possibly be a virus.”

AskWoody LoungerEudora has an updated version -v. 5.2.1. Maybe downloading an installing that over the v. 5.1 that you have would solve the problem.
Or maybe this: http://www.eudora.com/techsupport/kb/1593hq.html%5B/url%5D

AskWoody LoungerI realize that this is kind of out of date, but I just found the answer to the problem. If you are using MS Outlook you should read this link http:// http://support.microsoft.com/search/previe…b;en-us;Q242984 . If you are using Eudora as your email program, this also can cause the problem. You need to (in Eudora) go to Tools, options, Viewing mail, and uncheck use Microsoft’s viewer. Your font should stick from now on.

AskWoody LoungerIf I understand what you are saying correctly, I think that this is the normal way dialup connections work. You may connect at one speed, e.g., 44000bps and then the connection trains up or down depending on various factors. As far as “dropping out” is concerned, there is an extra setting you can add to the modem which may help in stopping this. Go to Control Panel -Modem-Properties-Connection-Advanced, and in the extra setting box type in S10=50. Let us know if this helps.
Also, you might do this>Right click the IE Icon, click on Connections, Settings, Advanced, and make sure that Disconnect if idle for x minutes is not checked.
