The only difference is that FP11 now includes the option with the installer, instead of with compete installation. With earlier versions (FP10 and earlier FP11 versions that did not include the option with the installer), this option was also available via the system control panel. Also, this option does not present itself with the MSI installer withFP10/FP11, but only with the EXE installer (as I have tried both on different systems).

You said that it is now available. All I am saying is that it was also previously available and that this setting can actually be changed easily.

Regarding “Adobe Flash adds automatic updates ”

This setting has been available since Flash Player 10, via the system Control Panel; Adobe just decided to add it to the installer for people that have no idea how their system works…

(Just an FYI for people that don’t want to update to Flash Player 11, for some reason…)

    • in reply to: MS Office problem after using Revo Uninstaller #1326896

I keep seeing people recommending Revo Uninstaller, but I have always had problems with it on test machines.

Revo Uninstaller, other third-party uninstallers, and other cleanup utilities often cause more problems than they fix. Try uninstalling programs with normal methods via the Control Panel first.

Always backup your system before making major changes or installing new software.

    • wlsetup-web.* is the web installer (i.e. must be connected to the internet); wlsetup-all.* is the last offline (full) installer (i.e. internet connection is not required for installation) for Windows Live Essentials 2009.

    • WLM2009 is unlike other programs regarding window size. There is no way to make your chosen size stick, no matter what you do. Each time you open anything it goes to full screen, no matter how many times you set it to just the size you want and close the program. I don’t know how to fix the problem but there must be somebody out there who does.

WLM2009 does remember its last position on my system.

    • Get the full offline installer (i.e. not the web installer) for Windows Live 2009 (all Windows Live Essentials 2009 programs, including WLM 2009) directly from Microsoft here. The web installer requires you to be connected to the internet to install programs, the offline installer does not.

You can also search Microsoft Downloads.

Also, as with almost every program, change WLM to the size you prefer, then close the program. When you start the program again, it will open at the last working size when you closed it last. No registry hacks required.

    • in reply to: Slipstream Win XP Pro SP3 #1273424

I’ve had luck, but I used Nero Burning ROM to burn the CD.

I had to use IsoBuster to get the boot image from the OEM CD, since this is not a standard Microsoft boot img (image). I also had to make sure that the setting for burning the CD were correct, since just making a bootable CD-ROM will not work for an XP Installation CD.

A good tutorial for slipstreaming and using Nero Buring ROM to create the CD can be found at HelpWithWindows.com

You might want to check the boot options in your BIOS (i.e. CMOS). You can probably disable the system from trying to boot from your USB drive. (I have my computer boot options to CD first, local harddrive second, and USB third…)

Instructions to get into your BIOS vary from system to system, but usually involves pressing a function key (e.g. F2 or F4, etc.) when you first turn on your computer before Windows actually starts booting.

CAUTION: Be careful when you make any changes. Keep track of any changes you make in case you want to go back. There is usually a function in the CMOS to restore default or optimum settings, but this may not be the best setting for you.

    • in reply to: Printing in white #1273417

Why don’t you visit a commercial printer (i.e. a local print shop)? They already have the resources to print light colors on dark paper.

Standard Ink Jet and Laser printers are additive, not subtractive. This means they can go from light to dark (e.g. white paper with dark blue ink), but not dark to light.

People that gave silly responses to this, like “Try light yellow” or “print in bold” just don’t understand.
