Is it beeping and if so count them. 4 beeps, 5 beeps etc. Did you make any hardware changes prior to this. Possible memory or graphic’s card issue.

No it’s not beeping, just a steady red light.

This is a good read on this subject: http://goo.gl/35Pk4L

Yes, I ran it last month just before update Tuesday. It cleanup around 5 GB’s, I don’t remember exactly ’cause I didn’t write it down.

      Thanks Sudo15,
What is odd is I can run sageset from the commandline and it will be listed there as one of the cleaning options.

To have Disk Cleanup look for obsolete Windows Updates you need to right click on Disk Cleanup and run it as an administrator and you will see its process of scanning for these files along with its other scans.

It isn’t a separate option that pops up because of installing the KB, it enhances Disk Cleanup with this new attribute when run as an administrator.

I normally run it each month after the WUs to see if there are any others that can be removed.

I ran it as an administrator, and I still did not get “Clean up system files”

I have Windows 7 64-bit and also the Update for x64 System (KB2852386), but when I run Disk Cleanup I do not have the button “Clean up system files” to start the process of removing unneeded update files. How do I get that button to show?

The XML file is just a definition of the backup, but you need to save it somewhere and the Desktop is as good as anywhere – although I personally use a “Backup” folder under My Documents for such things, then it’s automatically included in backups.

      cheers, Paul

Thanks Paul, that is a very good idea. I did that and put a shortcut of the folder in ‘Start’ Menu.

      Jkitc,

I don’t believe you can execute the .xml files directly you need to create a batch file to do the job as shown below:

      HTH

What is the value then of the XML file on my desktop?

The Restore is important, especially for me, because it re-writes my HD in a completely Defragmented manner.
So I just do my weekly Backup, Verify and Restore and never have to do a Defrag.
Keeping my hard drive defragmented, is just one reason why my PC runs so good. (it’s now 8 years old and still runs better than
      many brand new PC’s.)

Backup, Verify and Restore, what a great idea. I did that and my computer likes it.

So why not uninstall it, which you would presumably do via the Windows Control Panel? Indeed, you could even leave it on your system and simply re-assign the WinKey+8 shortcut.

Re-assigning is what I tried, but does not work.

Get rid of it. It caused me grief, so I uninstalled it.

    • in reply to: Better Macrium Free option for creating disk image? #1353069

I would keep the WAIK ISO around somewhere, because from time to time you need to re-create the Rescue Media CD. This requires Macrium Free to have access to the WAIK ISO file.

I made the recovery disk and it booted up alright, but then a command like prompt told me there was incomplete formatting, so that is as far as it went. I don’t know went wrong, do you have any idea’s?

Update: The program had a update, which I ran and then made another disk, and this time it works.
      Thanks for the information.

The better option is the Windows PE version, because it has more comprehensive hardware support, but observe that you have to download the “Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows 7 KB3AIK_EN.iso” (or equivalent) which is a 1.7 GB download!

Personally, I’d create both, for belt-and-braces/better-safe-than-sorry, but if you find that the Linux version works OK for your environment, then the long download wasn’t needed!

Can I uninstall: “Windows Automated Installation Kit (AIK) for Windows 7” after making the “Windows PE 3.1 Recovery Media?
