Thank you…..I have since typed in Task Scheduler in the window next to the Start button. When it came up there was a window overlaying it that said a program’s image had been modified or corrupted. When I clicked OK then another message came up, etc. there was about 15 or so messages that said the same thing. I am wondering if when I upgraded to Win 10, then didn’t like it and rolled back to Win 7 if that is what caused the problem….Each time I have run my Trend Micro Platium A/V it has given me a clean bill of health….John

Hi John! I would create a back up image and then give the Media Creation Tool a shot in my #2 post!. It may take over 2 hours to complete. You could also do a repair install. Maybe other members will reply to your thread!! Did you roll back to W7??
Here’s link to the repair install!
PS W10 offers Windows Defender for AV. That’s what I use, but you can choose which AV you want to use!!

Yes I got very frustrated and rolled back to Win 7 so I would need to do the Win 10 install all over again. John

Hi What media did you use to up grade to W10?? Most members here recommend using the Media creation tool (MCT) You will get more suggestions from members.

Success, I found that removing the battery and the pressing zero and the turning the computer on I could get to the hidden partition without the computer turning off abruptly. The choices included restoring computer to factory specs or repair. I selected the repair option and the computer ran the program……when completed the computer booted up as it should. I then replaced the battery and charged it up to full. Then the laptop would run OK either on the battery or with AC.

THANK YOU to all that kindly gave me suggestions. It was much appreciated. John

On consideration is to purchase a new computer with Win 7 on it. My sister just purchased a new laptop with Win 7 on it from Dell and I just purchased a new laptop from Toshiba with Win 7 on it. According to some posts Win 7 will be supported until sometime in 2020 per Microsoft. I’m sure there are some Desktops still available. In both instances, we ordered directly from the manufacture’s home web site and sent to our homes. I couldn’t find any computers on the floor in a retail store that have Win 7 on it. Hope this might be of some help, John

Ted a big thank you…I downloaded it and it really told me what I was looking for…now to make a few decisions on what to disable…thanks again..have a good week. John

    • Ted many thanks,I will do…..it took 3 hours to do the initial reinstall from the hidden partition!!!!! Then I had to wade thru 3 days of updates to get everything updated..Whew!…I did make the restore DVD’s in case I ever need a new harddrive, BUT your suggestion is a great one for the future and a heck of a lot less work……Many thanks again…John

    • Thank you to each of you for your helpful assitance…..I reloaded the O/S from the hidden partition with no problem and the virus scans later indicate all it well…..it is worth noting as alredy mentioned that the activation code used by Toshiba was an OEM activation code that was used automatically during the install and NOT the product code on the bottom of the laptop….again thank you to each of you for your helpful assistance….John

    • Thanks to both of you, Batcher and Ted….I’ll get my hands on the laptop tomorrow and give it a go…hopefully I’ll be able to get some good results…John

    • Ted, when I tried to access teh magicaljellybean site, I was on a separate computer, not the “broken one” and it’s antivirus software told me it was a dangerious site and not to log on to it….not familar with the SIW site, but could try it tomorrow if necessary as I don’t have the messed up computer in my hands until tomorrow…John
