    • Also if you use section breaks that specify Start on Odd Page you can get those blank pages.

Yes, of course text should wrap underly nearly all circumstances.

I assumed, in retrospect without basis, that the poster was talking about poetry, where it makes sense to separate lines rather than wrap. If a long line wraps within its table cell, that would be okay for poetry.

An alternative is to put everything into a table with borders and gridlines hidden. Text in the left column, numbers in the right column.

It might be possible to fiddle up something where you use right-aligned tabs after each line and put the line numbers after the tab. The table solution would be more reliable.

    • Thanks, Gary – especially for modifying it to work with Word, which is beyond my current VBA skills. I wish the VBA editor had more convenience features, including an easy way to copy stuff from module to module. Of course it is possiible to do it manually by copying the code chunks, but that seems primitive.

The template started to show evidence of other types of corruption, so I am recreating it carefully.

It will take about five hours, but I’m cleaning up content along the way so it’s probably worthwhile. Now if I can get the client to understand the difference between a Word template and a regular Word doc file used as a basis or template for a category of document deliverables, I’ll be satisfied.

…but I have my doubts, as this is a template rather than a plain old doc.

And I’ll look into the various means to cure corruption.

Styleref will definitely work, but that means giving up on having Word work as promised (no big deal) and on having Word work as it did in the past (a big deal).

    • in reply to: Access grammar check options through VBA? #1269197

Thank you – the thread you pointed me to does help handle the two spaces example, but doesn’t talk about how to change the Word setting for it through VBA.

I’ve done some more research that seems to indicate the detailed proofing settings apply to Outlook and Word, and are stored in the registry rather than being application or document or whatever properties.

Does anybody else have a potential solution?
