I just heard from TRC customer support. They too were concerned that it might not be genuine MS product. This is what they said, “the product purchased is the Arvato Microsoft Windows XP Professional edition and the Arvato Microsoft Office 2003 which is genuine Microsoft media”

      Who is TRC?
The following is from the TRC website
      “About TRC
“TRC is a national supplier of computer software, hardware, accessory and audio visual items for colleges/universities, community colleges, technical schools and K-12 schools. TRC’s mission is to be the most recognized source for these institutions to acquire a wide variety of products at the most competitive rate.”

(Edited by HansV to make URL clickable – see Help 19)

Ctl+K does not seem to do anything when I am in Outlook. But I searched the Help menu using the term you used, “address resolution”. I came up with this article.
      http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/assistan…1240661033.aspx%5B/url%5D
I used it to clear my auto complete file and was able to successfully reenter the address and send the message.

Thank you for pointing out the right direction. I don’t mind resetting the auto complete file.

I have tried all that. I have deleted it from the drop down menu. I have retyped it from scratch. Eventhough it appears correct in the emal message, as soon as I click on the “Send” button it replaces name@domain.com with ‘name@domain.com’.
I have even deleted the original message and retyped the address from scratch and it still changes the address to include the apostrophes.

Apparently it was some problem with Word. When I rebooted this morning the problem was gone. Sorry to have botheres you.

BTW: I was just making the changes in the dialog box. I was not using VBA.

bravo Thanks konopca and jscher. I guess I was so frustrated I didn’t think through konopca suggestion. brickwall Thanks jscher for pointing out that it was just the {SECTIONPAGES} field that should be locked. hailpraise That did work.

ranton NOW at the risk of being called a sadomasochisticnecrophilpic (one who beats a dead horse). Doesn’t it seem absurd that it should take this much time and brain power to deal with what seems to be such a basic requirement of word processing? Or, Is this really such a complex problem? When I started working on this it seemed like such a simple idea. rantoff

    • in reply to: page # problem (Word 03 SP2) #1022519

NOPE: That results in all pages in the section being numbered “1 of 27, 1 of 27, 1of 27,…”

    • in reply to: page # problem (Word 03 SP2) #1022174

It is not absolutely neccessary, but it is highly desirable. This document is a Request for Proposals (RFP). We are a public agency. The vendors will respond to our RFP by editing in their responses and noting exceptions to the terms and conditions. Track changes helps me to discriminate between our lanquage and thiers. It also helps me to make sure there have not been any other less obvious modifications to our lanquage. An alternative approach would be to compare and merge each response with the original RFP. But since some responses use dramatically different formats that can be a real problem.
BTW: I tried protecting the document against any changes. The problem there is it prints each page as “page 1 of 1”, “page 2 of 2”, “page 3 of 3” etc.
I can distribute it as a PDF file.

    • in reply to: page # problem (Word 03 SP2) #1022157

Of course I can do those things. But I am distributing this to a 33 other firms. I would like it to look very professional when they print it out. As I said in my original post, the “Updatefields” is turned off in the Print pannel of Tools/Options

    • in reply to: page # problem (Word 03 SP2) #1022155

No it is the {SECTIONPAGES} field. This document has several sections which I wish to appear and number as seperate documents.

I agree it is strange that it shows as a change when there isn’t any, Just as strange, is why does the unchanged {SECTIONPAGES} show as a change when the unchanged {PAGE} does not?

    • in reply to: page # problem (Word 03 SP2) #1022082

I just discovered that if I protect the document against any changes the page numbers print “page 1 of 1”, “page 2 of 2”, page 3 of 3″….
So that is not a solution.

    • in reply to: find two different words (03 SP1) #1021418

What I did was to search for all occurrences of “must” and checked the “Highlight all items found” Then I highlighted them, then I searched for all occurrences of “shall” and highlighted those. That worked for my purposes.

      To answer your question:
I have a large legal document, a Request for Proposals. It contains many requierments for bidders and for contractors who might end up recieving an award. Some requierments are desirable and others are manditory. I needed to isolate the subset of requierments that were mandatory. All mandatory requierments use either the word “must” or “shall”.
After they were all isolated I deleted those sentence without any highlighted words.

Any suggestions for a resource to get me up to speed with VBA.

    • in reply to: adding list to a distribution list (03 SP1) #1020135

I’m sorry John. sorry I should have explained. I am not very familiar with Visual Basic. I used to know Word Basic pretty well. But after MS changed to Visual Basic I did not keep up. I am not really sure how to use your code. Maybe it is time for me to revisit Visual Basic and learn how to use Macro’s in Word and Excel again.
Have you a suggestion on a good resource to get me started. I’m not a complete lamer. I learned to program in Fortran Four using Hollerith cards and batch card readers. After we loaded a program we got chased around SF State by the Tac squad while we waited overnight to see if it compiled. You are probably too young to know what a Hollerith card is. scratch

OK since Outlook is so clunky, maybe there is another way to approach this.
Is there some other “contact software” that is compatible with outlook? Could I use another contact adress book, and use it to address messages in outlook. If so can I convert my outlook address book contents into the new address book software.

    • in reply to: adding list to a distribution list (03 SP1) #1020123

Sorry John, I have been distracted by other issues and lost track of this. The list I refer to is a list of Email addresses that came in on an Email that was adressed to 30 or more people.

I can take a list of addresses from an Excel database, paste the column into word, convert the table to text and replace the paragraphmarks with semicolons. I can then paste that list of addresses into a message. But I can’t figure a way to paste it into the distribution list of the Outlook Adress Book. As far as I can tell one must add each address one at a time.
