      Worked perfectly!
I was having trouble getting the if/and to work after the first if but yours seems to be just fine.

      Many thanks!

Wow, that was quick! Sample attached, thanks!

    • in reply to: Windows Update won’t update (Win7) #1565115

It just seems strange that updating W7 is suddenly a big problem when MS are pushing W10… Never had any problems up until now.
If it is MS making things hard for W7 users, then it’s pathetic. When this computer goes, I’ff off to Linuxland…

The same thing happens to me if I right-click on a file and select “send to”.

I never do that, so that’s why I didn’t see what you were seeing. Instead, I open a new email from within Outlook, and then attach whatever it is that I want to send. That could be a workaround for you until you find a fix for this issue.

I think that’s the only way round it. Wish I could junk Outlook altogether…

    • in reply to: Can’t access inbox when new message window open #1561716

I’m running Outlook 2016 and don’t have any issues like you have described.

When you can’t get out of the new message are you able to press the alt and tab keys at the same time and go back to the inbox that way?

      Nope, doesn’t work.

    • in reply to: Can’t access inbox when new message window open #1561701

I am able to create a new email and type something in the body of the email, then click on my inbox to open it. I have no problem with this.

I am running Outlook 2010. Which version are you running?

You said it is at the office. Perhaps there is a tech support person there who could assist? If so, he would be most familiar with the way things are set up, and he might be able to easily fix it.

One option might be Outlook Web App, if your office provides it. That would give you a different look on things, and it may work better for you than Outlook.

      Good luck.

I’m running Office2016 on W64 through Microsoft Exchange.

After further trails, the problem only occurs if I right-click on a file and select “send to”. Outlook then locks the new message window and I can’t get out of it.

Hi BATcher, The LTS version appears to be Zorin 9. I was going to download Zorin 9 Lite but looking at the resource requirements it looks like Zorin 9 Core is the most similar to Linux Lite 2.8 and Ubuntu Desktop 14.04.3 LTS. I’ve downloaded the 32-bit installers of both versions. Which do you suggest?

I’ve also downloaded Zorin Core 11 to compare as this is probably closer to Linux Mint 17.2. (I haven’t updated to 17.3 yet.)

Another one you might want to try is Lubuntu. Simple, very easy to use for those weaned on Windows…

    • in reply to: OK to enable IPv6 now? #1544713

      Thanks

The test shows my ISP has an IPv6 access and my equipment is IPv6 compliant. It says I don’t have an IPv6 address and cannot access IPv6-only websites (which is normal, since IPv6 is disabled both in Windows and on my router).

Microsoft warn against disabling IPv6, but WS advised that it should be disabled. So is it a good idea to enable it now…?

    • in reply to: Fix for transferring old HP 882C printer driver #1542995

      Ok, so the hack WORKED!

I have an old laptop running XP, which I knew worked perfectly with the 880C, so I plugged the printer into that and printed a test page. The test page shows all the driver specs.

I then did a search on the XP machine and found the folder containing the driver files. I copied that folder from the WindowsSystem32DriverstoreFile repository folder to the equivalent folder on my Win7 laptop.

Then (the 880C having been deleted from the list of printers) I plugged in the printer. Win7 recognized the 880C and installed the USB driver, but not the printer driver (printer shown with a yellow triangle). In the printer properties, I clicked on “update driver” and then changed the driver suggested by Win7 (starts with ‘hpsamd.inf’…) by browsing to the folder I had copied.

The driver installed ok and I now have the 880C working on my Win7 laptop with the XP driver.

I did try that, but it said “either no driver has been installed or none is required” (I’ve deleted the printer since to start again from scratch). But I ended up with the printer with the usual exclamation mark showing against it or a black icon that I have never seen before. I’ll play around with it some more tomorrow, getting late and had enough going round in circles for one day.

I’ll let you know if my work-around works.

      Thanks

If you mean “Installing Your Printer Driver Using the Windows Built-in Solution”, it just leads to instructions for installing via Windows Update on Win10.

I don’t have the option “My printer isn’t listed” in Win7, so I am limited to the printers that are listed. I’ve already tried to select another HP printer (910) and done a search via Windows Update for a driver but it says there is no driver for my OS…

That’s how I got to the stage of considering a transplant.

      (Thanks for your patience BTW…!)

Maybe my browser is different to yours, but when I click the ‘+’, I just get a film…

Create a System Restore point first.

You might try downloading and installing the Windows Vista drivers and see if that works.

All I get is a video telling me what a driver is….

      Ok, good point, thanks.

Install over or clean install would you say…?
