      Dear bbearren
BULLS EYE! Finally, after all this time, everything is deleted and the *@#$! icon is off my desktop. I have tried Revo Uninstaller before but without using the Advanced options. Thanks so much for your time and trouble. As the saying goes, “Live long and prosper!”
      Thanks,

I Uninstalled the program using Programs and Features in the Control Panel.

OK, RolandJS. That’s as good an explanation for the problem I am having as any I guess.

Now I have an unlabeled empty folder on my desktop. I can’t open it like a normal folder because, for this folder, I get a message that there is no program associated with it. Every other folder on my desktop behaves normally. From what I can tell, everything else in my system works just fine. This has now become a challenge. The command to display the folder must come from SOMEWHERE!

      Thanks for the tip, RolandJS.
When I ran EMCO, it asked me to specify a file, and I simply cannot find this icon name anywhere. Not on the Desktop directory or anywhere else. I’m wondering how anything can appear on the Desktop without being specified in a directory somewhere. I’m about ready to give up.
      Thanks,

If I right click on the icon, there is no “properties.” All the drop-down list displays is “Open”, “Uninstall”, and “Create Short Cut.” And, trust me, the “Uninstall” command does nothing!

Well, Bruce, it looks like I’m doomed to live with that *&^%! icon forever. I’ll just slide it down into a corner of my screen and live with it.
      Thanks.

The icon in question does not appear in the directory list of my desktop after step 4. It looks like this is some sort of “ghost” icon, and I say the hell with it. If this is the only problem with my system, I am willing to live with it.
Thanks so much for everyone’s time and trouble.

      Hi Jerry!
It doesn’t matter if I right click on the icon and try to delete it that way. Don’t I wish! I get a message asking whether I want to “uninstall” the product. When I indicate that I do, I get a message stating that the action is only good for products that are installed. That makes some sort of sense because I already uninstalled the program. It’s the icon (shortcut) on the desktop that remains. Also, if I try dragging the icon to the Recycle Bin (using either right or left button) the icon will not stay there. I even tried re-installing the program and uninstalling it using the uninstall option on the shortcut and no dice. The program is deleted, but the icon remains. Any hints? Thanks,
      Mike Rapp

    • The most recent example I can give you is that I downloaded an airplane model from Flightsim.com. When I tried to move that model (which contained several sub-files) to the aircraft main folder in Microsoft Flight Simulator, I received the message that Administrator’s permission was needed to move the file. None of the files are system files. Additionally, when I click on ‘Continue”, the file is moved anyway, so why is the additional step required? I really don’t have to do anything special. Apparently, the system can eventually recognize the fact that I am the Administrator. By merely clicking on ‘Continue” signify to the system that I, as the administrator, am giving permission? I really don’t know exactly what’s going on! Why can’t the system determine that I am the administrator and not even demand further permission?

Thanks, Ted. I have heard of Secunia PSI so I’ll give it a try. I appreciate the tip!
