    • in reply to: Word Aufo Format (2000) #950371

I’ve unchecked all of the autoformat boxes.
I’ve killed autocorrect and “dumbed down” all settings.
I don’t allow the NORMAL.DOT template to be updated. But….
. I usually create/work on outline type documents and use the
Tab key to space indents then the CONTROL “T” key combo
to indent the rest of the paragraph (quicker the mousing navigation).
      For instance
      1.0 Purpose
1.1TAB>blah blah blah (no ENTER, one continuous paragraph) (CNTRL T to align
remaining text with the with first line) blah blah etc
1.2more blah more blah (Ditto on the ENTER & CNTRL T)
      more blah etc.
. Sometimes, when I use the CNTRL T combo, this works fine. Other times and in the
same document without cutting or pasting something new into the document, when
I use CNTRL T the prior line/paragraph indents again (no pre-determined TABs set up)
and the current line indents right along with it. This one is a frustrating thing of beauty )dripping
      with sarcasm here).
. Another frustrating jewel is what appears to be automatic lists. Again, all in the same
document, set-up the same way (no TABS & dumbed down etc.). Like:
      2.0 Hello
      2.1 Hi
      2.1 Greetings
2.2 Presto, Im a new indented line here to frustrate you because, if you try to
use the backspace key I’ll remove myself and go back to the end of the
word Greetings (at 2.1) or, if you try to hi-lite me with the mouse you
can’t (it’s like the 2.2 doesn’t exist when using the mouse).
When I get really frustrated, my work around is to cut and paste into Notepad,
strip out whatever formatting I can see, and then save the text file, then cut &
paste back into my Word (Weird) document.
. I can’t predict when these anomally’s occur, unless I was to say that its usually
crunch time for the publication of the document (Manual or Procedure).

. Again gang, thanks in advance for your time.

      Amazing, simply Amazing.
      That VBA6.DLL fix worked.
I would think there should/could be some type of cross reference in The Lounge to that fix.
Simply Amazing what gets answered in the Lounge !
Care to try and answer this one:
What are the 6-winning Ohio Lottery Numbers for the upcoming drawing. ?
Hans / Legare – Thanks ever so much.

    • in reply to: Excel ‘Save As’ cell contents (Excel 2000) #931446

      Hans & Legare,
I really appreciate you walking me through this. THANKS.
      But….
Since starting this task I’ve been getting an error message indicating that
VBA6.DLL cannot be found and the macro will not run. When I’m in the VB
Editor I can run the macro but it appears the macro’s will only run from the
VB Editor screen. Prior to this venture all of the macro’s and buttons ran OK.
I have not added any new programs nor have I downloaded from the
internet. My virus software is up to date and I’ve gone through the Excel
Help Tools “Detect and Repair” process and the MS-Office cd repair
process to no avail. What did I do to deserve this ????
What would happen if I deleted the Excel PERSONAL.XLS file ? (just
      a thought).

    • in reply to: Excel ‘Save As’ cell contents (Excel 2000) #931280

A button (from the ToolBox) in (A) will create a value in (A), save that (A) spreadsheet then,
create ( and populate a cell in ( with that value. I’m currently working on the macro to
put the newly created value in the next empty cell in a specific column.
A couple of years ago I did something very similar to this in QuatroPro. Since then we
have migrated to MS Office and I’m trying to remove the human-error risk as much as possible.

    • in reply to: Excel ‘Save As’ cell contents (Excel 2000) #931128

Funny how in one persons mind it can be clear, but when questioned it is murky.

Spreadsheet (A) is “Read Only” and used as a template for other
spreadsheets (. The ( spreadsheet will contain a cell that is unique to the
( spreadsheet. I’d like to create a button (from the ‘Control Box’ Toolbar ) in the
      (A) spreadsheet that will create the ( unprotected spreadsheet and save
it using the contents of the unique cell as the file name and stay in the (
      spreadsheet for editing.
      I hope this helps.

      1. Your right, it was a BIOS setting. Thanks
      2. I can’t get the exact text now, I’ve re-formatted. I couldn’t find on Google/www either that’s why I tried here. Thanks again.
      3. I ended up doing a registry search and removing one of those entries. That was the only way. I agree that changing the settings SHOULD but…Thanks again again.
      4. Maybe this will be cured after the re-format & re-install. Which brings up another question.
      5. The Windows 2000 CD SETUP command won’t run from the COMMAND PROMPT. How do I install W2K ? I’ll be trying the W2K boot discs I made but is there another way ? I booted from a W95 bootable but without installing W95 I only get a command prompt.

      I appreciate your response, as your the only responder you must be a real WMVP ;-}

I’m using Mozilla Firefox (fre version) with a Yahoo e-mail account.
      I still get a lot of ** Spam post – please alert a Moderator **/** Spam post – please alert a Moderator ** enlargment/breast enlargement/software enlargement (sorry, I couldn’t resist)
unsolicited e-mails, with usually an intentianal mispelling in the subject line to get around the “rules” I’ve
      set up. You know, V I A G R A or V1AGRA (one not I) or PEEEENIS or S0FTWARE (0 not O) etc. The standard
dictionary in Word/Wordperfect/Wordstar etc. normally has these.

Just curious, do you have the search “indexing” service turned on ? It’s supposed to work in the background but….me thinks it causes CPU usage which equates to heat. Are you networked ? While we’re at it, when your apps are actually doing something do you still get the appearance of being locked-up ? Is the sun shining ?

    • in reply to: Laptop newby #856183

All of the responses are good. Let me throw another option at you . I to searched for a good take along laptop. I settled for a Dell C600 and it ran great. Then the display went south (white screen) and I couldn’t fix it. It now is hooked to a monitor and is used as any second PC is. However, what I did find and enjoy using are memory sticks. Lexar makes them in a multitude of sizes. I use the 16-meg versions to send pictures to my kids in the service: they fit in a regular envelope. I use the 256-meg versions to take data with me. I also carry a 3 1/2″ floppy with the driver so even if/when I “borrow” a PC I can be up and running in short order. I carry a minimum of 2 with me, one is a back-up just in case and is also good for additional storage. The neat part is they fit in a shirt pocket (3 1/2″ floppy and both memory sticks), something no laptop can do. Also, I find that I’m not glued to the PC while traveling, I get to smell the roses during the journey. That in and of itself allows me to arrive at my destination a little more relaxed and actually ready to work .
      Just a thought…

Maybe I didn’t word my problem properly, let me try it this way:
When you (jscher2000) right click on the Outlook desktop icon, you get a dialog box that is
titled ” Properties “, I don’t. My (Nucthat1) dialog box title is “Internet Accounts”. Yours has three
tabs labelled “Services”, “Delivery” & “Addressing”, I don’t have those. You have a box that
says “Show Profiles”, again, I don’t. My dialog box only allows me to set up internet mail accounts.
