Just to bring some closure to this thread…

Office 2000 SP3 is now available at the Office Update site.

      Hi hlewton,

No, this site just announces an upcoming webcast. I quote:

Support WebCast: Microsoft Office 2000: Deploying Service Pack 3
      Tuesday, November 19, 2002: 8:00 A.M. Pacific time (Greenwich mean time – 8 hours)

      Level:300

During this Support WebCast, you will learn about the various ways that you can deploy Microsoft Office 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) in an enterprise computing environment. You will find out how to use Ohotfix9.exe to chain client-side patch deployment and administrative patching. Because SP3 is a new baseline for Office 2000, you will also hear how this will affect the rollout of Office 2000 in an environment where previous versions of Office 2000 have been deployed. You will learn how to provide additional failover resiliency for client-side patches and how to use some of the new tools that are available on the Microsoft Office Resource Kit site to manage patches in your environment.

Never saw the MS retraction but I did just find this link:

Then, of course, I found this link…

      Man, do I feel stooopid or what? I mistook W2000 sp3 for WORD2000 sp3. Sheeesh…

Sorry, I don’t have a solution to your query, but I notice your environment is “W2000 sp3, O2000 sr-1”. What is “sp3”? I’ve seen references to sp3 for O2K (or W2K) but can’t find anything on it at MS. (See post 196247 )

      Mark,

Thanks for the answer… how the censored did you find that? At least I now know I’m not suffering from early-onset cabin fever. I tried it both ways and prefer the no line view.

      Thanks,

      Big Al:

Some further observations: As stated in my earlier post, “View post number” does not work (for me) in NS7. It does work when I use IE6. I tried pasting a graphic into the NS7 email client with no success. I typically use “attach” or “insert” to do this so I don’t know if this behavior is unusual or not.

I’ve noticed a number of unusual behaviors in NS7 (especially its email client) compared to NS4. How convinced are you that this is an XP problem and not a Mozilla issue?

    • in reply to: Obscure Setting(s)? (WinXP Pro SP1) #628042

      Big Al:

I don’t have a solution but I did try “View Post Number” with Netscape 7. Didn’t work for me either, but the “Jump” button to the right of it works OK. I’ll try pasting a graphic into the NS7 email client to see if there is a problem there too.

      Cheers,

You may very well have a valid observation, Mark. All the more reason for MS to jump in here and gloat!

    • in reply to: XP Theme (XPP SP1) #626885

      Big Al:

I’m lurking here in the background, cheering you guys on. Despite 35+ years in the IT/IS business, I’m still a hunt-and-peck keyboardist. Typing more than a couple of dozen words usually induces attention deficit disorder.

I was a little premature in announcing victory in my last post. I still have the problem, although it appears to occur less frequently since installing SP1. Bummer.

I agree with you and Mark that the problem is relatively trivial and generally has no adverse consequences (other than a slow burn). That’s not the point, though. The efforts put in by the people in this forum are commendable but sometimes fruitless, as is the case in this thread so far. What ticks me off is not being able to provide feedback to MS on a problem that has existed in numerous versions of Windows (both 9x- and NT-based) for over 4 years. Really, where’s the QC here??? A simple acknowledgement of the problem from them would be nice. A solution would be better, but I would even be happy with a statement from them that they will look into it when Hell freezes over.

      OK, rant off.

On topic: I have a GeForce2 Ti 64Meg, although I have had ATI cards in previous systems that experienced this problem.

Off topic: Currently experimenting with Netscape 7. Some very nice features in the browser, some strange ones, but the mail client seems to have taken a few steps back from the NS4 version. Big Al: I see you run Mozilla. Which version is that?

      Cheers,

Thanks for all the great answers. In the end, the solution suggested by Jean Weber proved the easiest to implement and produced the desired result.

      Thanks all,

    • in reply to: Underlining (O2KSR1a) #625919

Other issues have kept me away from this forum and I won’t be able to try out the great ideas that have been suggested for a few days yet. I am puzzled by the attachment provided by John Hutchison. John, in the underlining example, how did you extend the underline past the word underlining?

    • in reply to: XP Theme (XPP SP1) #625914

      hlewton,

To see the “Customize Notifications” window that Big Al attached, you first need to check the “Hide inactive icons” box on Taskbar properties. That will activate what you currently have grayed out.

    • in reply to: Underlining (O2KSR1a) #625323

Jean, I’ve got to hit the sack right now, but I’ll try out your solution tomorrow. It looks promising.

      Thanks,
