    • in reply to: Word 2003 Footnote – don’t split (2003) #967598

I offered that solution but he wanted to make a universal change – I don’t think he understood that changing a style would be a universal change.

Anyway, I created a test document without changing anything about the style and the footnote stayed all together on the page and pushed text to the next page. I think he may be dealing with a converted document. Maybe I’ll get to actually look at the document and see what I can do. If so, I’ll see if I can try your suggestion.

      Thanks!

      Worked like a charm! Thanks!

      Hi Karen!

Thanks to you and the others for this info. It gives me what I needed. This is for an office doing a brand new roll out so the users have no investment in their normal.dot. They wanted to change their default font in their normal.dot to be arial 12 point, add first page different and page numbering on the bottom center, underline tab spaces – more than should be done to the normal and better approached with a separate template. This environment is brand new to Word so they are still operating under WordPerfect logic. If any of the rest of you have gone through that change, you know what they’re going through. Some of Word’s concepts are very foreign and take time to acclimate to.

Thank you very much! I’ll try that right now. However, my slave drive is getting flaky on me and not wanting to stay live where I can get to it. That’s why I’m so frantic to get the info off of it. Thanks! bow

      Hans,

I thought that might be the case and so I tried. However, there doesn’t seem to have been one set up. I tried Admin and Administrator and there was no such thing. There is only my name as Administrator. This new drive was configured by a tech shop. I set up my old drive, and my recollection is that it did have an Administrator account separate from my users account. I’m cruising Microsoft site again this morning hunting for miracles. brickwall

    • Using Adobe full version, I did save a PDF as an RTF document but WHEW was it ugly and messy when I opened it up. Lost all the original formatting. So, I’ve submitted your first suggestion to the attorney and hope he goes for it.

    • Your first suggestion sounds the best way to me and I’m going to try to sell him on that idea.

However, on the second one, I have the full version of Adobe but I have never converted a PDF to MS Word – only the other way around. How do I do that?

On the 3rd idea – the PDF can be exported as TIFF, PNG, or JPG so that would be a possible way to get graphical images – I just hated to mess with trying to paste all those graphics into the document in the correct order. Your first idea is definitely the best solution if I can get him to go for it. I’m not aware of any reason why he shouldn’t other than it isn’t what he initially came up with to do.

    • You two take the fun out of making things hard! blackteeth Thanks for the solution. The one snag is that he has to update the fieldcode but I set it to do so on print. Hopefully that won’t cause problems. Thanks muchly.

    • Unfortunately, those factors vary from document to document. The one that he was working on this morning had only 3 sections and that was only because we tried to rope off the page he wanted the document info to appear on with section breaks, one before and after the page. It was indicated that the document was created originally in Word but I think somewhere it suffered conversion trauma because it didn’t want to recognize all the sections when we went into Header/Footer. It was exasperating. Hard-typing in the info would have been a quick fix but that isn’t what he wants to do long term.

    • Is there a way to program it so that it prints on the last page of a section? I tried substituting SECTIONPAGES for NUMPAGES but had no luck. I’m working on other combinations but so far, no go. brickwall
