For some reason I was getting very few pop-ups, but within the last day or so I am now getting quite a few.
I use FireFox. I did not have an ad-blocker enabled on FireFox (because I did not need one).
Is there an a workable ad-block for FireFox ?
      Thanks in advance,
      Paul

      PANDA ATTACK?
After reading the above, I followed the Bleeping Link and while there, decided to first read the info about installing the Panda, before downloading Panda. That took me to Panda’s site and then a 1″ tall reversed white out of black message appeared at the bottom of my screen, which said “We use our own and third party cookies to enhance your computer experience. By continuing to browse this site or clicking the close button you agree to our use of cookies.” aka you lose both ways. I got out of there, but when I re-opened the Lounge, there was an ad floating at the bottom of the screen. Have I been hacked by the Panda? What should I do now, or should I start a new message?

      FYI
Macrium Reflect can do a smart image and leave out pagefile ,, and ha a compression option, but DO follow Joe’s advice.

      Wavy:
Thank you for this info. Is that the free or paid Macrium?

Slimware’s RecImg Manager was suggested by a poster. From what I’ve read about it, Slimware has created an absolutely simple image backup and restore product with zero options. But its not a gigabyte slimming product.

Does anyone know if Slimware can shrink the image file, too?

      Paul

Anyone know if SlimWare’s Recimage manager has options to reduce the size of the image file?

    • in reply to: OneNote2013 not being backed-up by File History #1508728

      Solved! Use the DEFAULT location.

This has been working consistently: C:UsersPaulDocumentsOneNote Notebook to the Libraries folders using the Rt-clk “include in Library” command.

I just picked the DEFAULT and it has been working. I’ve tried several measures to try to make it fail. I’ve made a one-word change to a page. I’ve deleted pages. I’ve added and or deleted sections. I should also report that the One-Drive (aka SkyDrive) “cloud” system has been “OFF”. The cloud “Sync” Icon (looks more like an acorn than a cloud) in the lower right corner continues to report that I’m “sync’d”. Go figure?

      JoeP517.
Thank you for giving consideration to my question.

My goal is to make a slim image backup before I install the CAD software.
Are there any image slimming options (aka switches) available to exclude “documents” from the image backup process, for example ” -documents ” ?
      Paul

Thanks for the tip re: Cleanup System Files safely. I ran it and it eliminated 1.7GB of mostly Win-Update Files. That leaves 50GB of Image Backup, described as OS(C:) System 49GB, which I assume includes Document files which total 5GB, or maybe not. Maybe hyberfil.sys, cache files and other stuff is in there, too?

I am using the USB for File History. I want to eliminate failures of File History to backup OneNote files.

      Reply to #4:

Thank you for your logic and insights.

I still don’t know if I should select the Primary or Backup for the Library “pointer”.

The files in OneNote’s backup folder are incremental compared with the files in the Primary folder. Logic tells me that the Library pointer should be to the backup folder because only it contains the incremental files.

What’s the risk? The risk is that after several more months of using OneNote/File History extensively, that the system begins to fail because the file pointer is in the wrong place.

      Here’s what I do know:
OneNote works just peachy with OneDrive. After one year of OneDrive, I’ve driving away from it, but the divorce came with a price.

My NON-OneNote files were backed-up by File History to the USB drive, incrementally and 100% while also backing up to OneDrive.

The trouble began after separating from OneDrive. The re-installation did not provide file location guidance for the OneNote “pointer” in the Library.

If you have been using OneNote/File History extensively with an external USB drive without a problem, which choice did you make for the Library pointer?

      Reply to post #2.
I just checked my Library folders. C:UsersPaulDocuments was added to the LIBRARY structure and OneNote FAILED to backup in File History.

After it FAILED, I added C:UsersPaulDocumentsOneNote Notebook to the Library folders using the Rt-clk “include in Library” command

File History then backed up the OneNote Notebook. But, is this correct? The OneNote design is for “incrementally” backing up file changes. The incremental backup files are not in THAT location, the incremental files are located in the Backup folder at: C:UsersPaulAppDataLocalMicrosoftOneNote15.0

That’s really the thrust of my question since there are two file storage locations maintained by OneNote. Which one should be in the Library?

      Thanks,
      Paul

    • I just remembered OP mentioning in the opening post running AVG free, at least at the beginning. Sources tell me AVG, Avast, Avira and others often come with additional security, monitoring, cleaning, slimming, and whatever other functions. One has to dial back un-needed, un-wanted functions.

Roland: Thank you for bringing up this important objective. MBAM-Pro has so far, avoided app “gloat”. If I could find a AV that covers what MBAM does not cover, that would be perfect. Even if I need to occasionally run a third product to cover what’s not covered, that would be OK.

      Is there an acceptable combo?

      Paul

    • Along with my anti virus I have Malwarebytes Pro is always on and runs in the background along with my AV.

When AV and MBAM-Pro are both running, is there noticeable degradation?

If no degradation, would you (or anyone else) be willing to disclose an AV (not McA..) that plays well with MBAM-Pro ?

      39982-MBAM-03-24-15

I found the “.se” domain already posted in the “Web Exclusions” as per your example. Since I didn’t put it there and now I understand that it’s purpose is to cause MBAM to not check that webpage, it appears that whoever put it there doesn’t want MBAM to check this website/domain if/when I might be re-directed there.

This sounds like a way for an invader to defeat MBAM? Or am I missing something?

I ran a Full Scan by MBAM. I have McAfee Live Safe (installed OEM by DELL) and I forced it to run a Full Scan (it never finds anything). I ran ESET online scanner (took 5 hours because it also examined the external USB bakup drive) and I ran the free Kapersky scanner. Nothing found.

I followed #11 and found quite a few Protection Logs for 03-24-15 where MBAM started, stopped, failed. See attached sample.

I am not clear on how to determine whether it is incoming or outgoing and how can I check on that? Thank you
      Ken Hess

I too, today, found the following in WEB EXCLUSIONS:
      Domain: 20d625b48e.se
      Domain: http://www.20d625b48e.se

I looked up the “.se” and found that it was for Sweden.
I don’t do anything with Sweden.

I poked around MBAM’s forum and didn’t find anything under “exclusions” or this domain address.

Is this an incoming or outgoing exclusion? Should it be removed?

Since my question follows the OP’s question “How do you know if it’s incoming or outgoing.” I thought it might be pertinent, rather than a hi-jack.
      Thanks,
      Paul

How did the SharePoint support person disable the consumer version of Onedrive? I am assuming for “consumer version” of ONEDRIVE that you mean the Onedrive that installs with the NON-Pro Windows8.1?3

No AV program is 100% effective but some are better than others and Kaspersky currently has the top slot.

Which (if any) of the Kapersky versions is the good for the home user?
      1) Kapersky PURE 3.0 (for home, all threats, safe money, banking, digital ID and privacy, parental)

      2) Internet security 2015 (all types of Internet threats, safe noney, banking and shopping detects new, emerging and unknown threats, digital ID and privacy)

      3) Kapersky 2015 Anti-Virus (viruses, spyware, Trojans, rootkits, and more, rapid reaction to new and emerging threats, iInstant safety checks on files, applications, and websites malware rollback)

I have found the free Kapersky apps recommended by Windows Secrets columnist to be excellent.

Appreciate any insight on these choices.
