AskWoody Loungerthis is one of the articles I had seen about a type of router attack recently

AskWoody LoungerI highly value WOT, as do many others, but what I value most is the actual user reviews and replies which are listed in the RED flagged report area, as I stated there were numerous, over 40, direct comments by individuals stating that the website mentioned included malicious rogue malware, when seeing that kind of rating and those numbers of direct reviews I steer clear, which is why the warning was provided. What any one chooses to do on their own is of course their business. On the forums I am on warning of RED listed WOT sites is the norm, to go with caution. It was given here by myself as just that a cautionary notice.

AskWoody LoungerI had seen mention of something similar at one of the other forums I am on and I think it was over on DSLR reports in the security forum but am not positive. I also would try the manufacturers website for updated firmware which might block such vulnerabilities. As mercyh mentioned all of those questions are definitely ones I would ask also, very interesting case. Goes to show how important keeping our routers very locked down can be. I see so many that just slap on a router and never change anything from default or set strong passwords.
good luck Mike let us know how things progress. -

AskWoody LoungerHeading to a malware removal support forum and getting assistance by the specialist there is your best bet with this kind of infection, malwarbytes would be the first attempt, however to make sure you are fully cleaned going to one of the forums and running specialized scans will ensure full removal. Bleeping computer does offer good tutorials for removals however having a guided clean up is the best way to go. Many of the support forums you can trust are listed here

like this one for example

AskWoody Loungerthe site spywareremove link mentioned in an above post by Clint is coming up RED flagged in WOT so proceed with caution there. I personally steer clear of the RED listed sites. It has 43 comments stating malicious content on the site and states it contains rogue software.

AskWoody LoungerI would at the very least run malwarebytes free asap, download, update, run scan let it clean what it finds. I also recommend going to one of the malware removal support forums to get guided assistance and use of some special tools.
http://www.udel.edu/topics/spyware/installmalwarebytes.html directions on getting and installing and using malwarebytes you can use and keep malwarebytes on your pc it will not interfere with your antivirus program, update it and scan with it weekly.
You can find many excellent malware removal forums listed on the ASAP site
http://asap.maddoktor2.com/bleepingcomputer has some excellent removal guides on their site.
doing a system restore did not clean your pc. The infection you mention quite often carries with it a rootkit you want to make certain you are not still infected with that.

AskWoody LoungerExcellent thread thanks for creating it. In the past when I have assisted people needing guides I have referred the following tutorials.
http://www.whatsabyte.com/P1/Acronis_image.htm
at the bottom of that tutorial it also has a link on a guide for how to restore the image and also how to create the bootable cd.Another very good tutorial I have used for some time including earlier versions of ATI is this one from a users group.
http://www.ugr.com/nl1106.html
That site also offers a much reduced price compared to regular price for those who are user group members.for other options in imaging programs I found this article helpful

AskWoody LoungerI always do my online banking on my linux boxes, and many banks are now suggesting using a linux live cd in the pc to do their banking, in effect sandboxing the sessions by use of the live cd. Have seen several good articles on it lately. Since live cd’s are free and easily available, either by downloading and burning the iso or picking up a linux magazine that contains a free cd inside or ordering one online, it is an easy thing to try it out.

AskWoody LoungerThis is a good link to review
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/help/learn-how-to-install-windows-xp-service-pack-3-sp3
it covers the various options including using the stand alone download and has a good before you begin section.
Acronis is a very good choice, and of course create a restore point prior to beginning( a good practice for any install). Usually if you run into problems you can boot into safe mode and go to add remove programs and remove the sp3 update to get back to where you were.
Good luck! -

AskWoody Loungeryou might want to try the free REVO uninstaller it is a really good helpful product

AskWoody LoungerRoderunner on the actual manufacturer page in the system requirements it definitely shows the windows seven icon as well as the Vista icon and states the following
The Free PDF-XChange Viewer FREE/PRO is compatible with all Windows Versions from Windows 2000 and later both 32 & 64 bit architecture.
Note: The .exe installers auto-detect System Architecture and install 32 and 64 bit components accordingly.
I have it installed on a laptop with windows 7 64bit and it is working fine, as well as on my xp pro and home..I posted the cnet link because on the manufacturers page, since they have updated it, it is confusing to find the free version. There is definitely a totally free version, it is the one I use.
