I guess what I should have asked is what Invalide Page Fault means, and what part of Windows should I shut down to see if it goes away?

    • in reply to: Video players (Windows XP – SP2) #1034707

I tried for the download, but couldn’t get it to start – – I get “This page cannot be displayed” only.

    • in reply to: downloading codecs (XP-SP2) #1030014

Thanks a lot, John – that’s what I needed to learn. Appreciate it.

    • in reply to: blocked emails (Windows XP home) #1025970

He gets a notice, I guess like a place-holder, that the email was received, but the image (s) are not therre, and there doesn’t seem to be any explanation why not.
I had him check to make sure the box about text only, and it was not checked.
Also, he sometimes gets some attached .jpgs from some emails, but it’s not consistant. He can receive some from across country, but not receive some from cross-town….confusing.
Could it be the Norton Security settings that are blocking things?? I know nohting about Norton – I have AVG, and don’t have these problems.

    • in reply to: How to clear Outlook Express (Outlook Exxpress 6) #1015711

      Thanks guys –
Both things you suggested was passed on to a second level tach at my ISP, and about an hour later, trying this and that, plis cancelling my account and reinstalling it, we were finally able to
do what needed to be done. I really appreciate your input, and depth of knowledge. It makes you wonder why no one at Microsoft answers questions like these, doesn’t it?
I wrote them first, and am still waiting for some kind of response……….making me appreciate you guys even more.

Sorry about the delay – I thought I had uploaded the screenshot before, and only found out it didn’t go when I checked for an answer today. Sorry about that – I hope it’s here now – It shows that it is.

Thanks a lot – I’ll try the Repair Install and see if I can make it work. I really appreaciate the reply.

    • in reply to: Lost Slide show and Video use (XP-sp2) #1004593

I don’t know about a wizard for slide show and video play – I had whatever comes with XP when it’s new.
I’ve tried to “search” on each of these, but got nothing.
Is there something else I need to know?

    • in reply to: XP-IE has spy-falcon (XP-SP2) #1002282

      Hey Bob –
I owe you big, man. It worked like a charm – the bleeping computer link was the ticket and it wiped out the rotten Spy Falcon.
I wish there was a way to track which email or whatever brought on this thing….it really is the most annoying thing you
can find on your desktop. But, it’s gone now, and thank you very much.

Thanks for the reply – –
Now, Ifind that Windows XP Home cannot find or display the dxmpp.dll……….Is there a special way to get to that?
I’ve tried the Search, but “no files can be found” or words to that effect. I never have much luck with the Search
utility in XP – – very low rate of success for me. More help would be appreciated.

    • in reply to: Disable anti-virus (XP Pro) #993516

Sorry Big Al, I am guilty of not doing what I should, and will fix it soon. I bought a new computer with XP on it, and bought AVG as the anti-virus, hence the question.
AVG is the one I was asking about, if that helps………I thought there was a common way to disable or shut down, or whatever to load a new program – – shows how
much I know, eh?And, for the record, I sure didn’t mean to imply I didn’t get a good answer HERE……that has never happened – – I’ll try to watch my words in the future.
Hope this clears up part of the confusion.

    • in reply to: The Back button (XP Professional) #986298

I found the little devil. After trying several of the suggestions, and not being able to complete the task, I finally tried “View /Toolbars/Standard Buttons”, and
there it was! My remaining question is what I could have done to lose the button in the first place??? I always seem to have mysterious problems, and it’s been
suggested that my CAD programs are causing havoc with poor old Windows. Any ideas what I should beware of ?
Thanks for all the help in the past – I really do appreciate it.

    • in reply to: The Back button (XP Professional) #986152

In XP, when you open a file, at the top left of the page, there is an arrow pointing back (to the previous page)……..that’s the one I’m talking about. Hope that’s clear??

    • in reply to: Dumping Word….. (XP Professional) #961251

You had it right when you said I “just don’t like it”.
It seems that every task that i used to do in 10 minutes either takes much more time, or gets screwed up.
I’m not blaming Microsoft, but I think I just need “Microsoft-Light”.
I’m retired and this is a hobby, so I don’t have elaborate things to present.
I do appreciate the concern, and I haven’t uninstalled them yet, but it’s comforting to know that I can without losing what I really use.
You guys are terrific, and we newbies depend on you. Thanks again.
