Work in Outline View with only eadings 1,2,3 visible (You have to click on the Number 3 on the Outline View Toolbar).
Write a macro to mark one para in Heading 3, cut it and paste it into an empty Word File and Save the File as HTML.
Modify it later to mark Heading 2 and Heading 1 and cover the entire file.

A bit unscientific, but try it nevertheless if you can.

Click on any link on the partially downloaded page and immediately press the Stop Button.

Try putting the bar code within a text box and change the orientation of the text box contents.

      Hi Dave

Simply record a macro with a convenient keyboard shortcut assigned, which will make for the current paragraph Format-Paragraph-Space Above = 0.

You may get a lot of code this way; just delete all that is unwanted.

Run this macro wherever you want to eliminate the space above.

      Hi, Geoff

A couple of thoughts to add to yours:

Embedding, I agree, is the only sensible thing to do for templates; however, for files which are to be archived after work is completed, till the time they are ready for archival, it is best to link the pictures; and just prior to archival, one may select all the links in the Edit Links Dialog Box and click save picture in document.

And just in case the pictures get lost for whatever reason within the documents, the pictures may be archived along with the documents.

This is an ideal approach for a service bureau kind of operation, as also the documentation department of large corporations.

You have a point, but I have found the approach of linking (rather than embedding) to the pictures better than non-dynamic approach which involves re-working in the final application.

This is especially critical in figure-heavy files, where figures are often worked on and corrected independently of persons paginating the Word file.

      A couple of other tips:

Another good idea to avoid jumping of figures/ text boxes is to temporarily put a section break (Next Page) after the point where you do not want your pagination messed up.

If you have a grouped object which you want to ungroup without a messup, copy the grouped object to a new empty file based on the same template as the current one, do all the ungrouping there, and then after the object is done, come to the original file, put a section break as explained above at the end of the page on which you want to place the grouped object, and delete the original grouped object and replace it with the newly grouped object. After this is done, the section break can be deleted from Normal View.

You would have protected the document for tracked changes to force recording of the changes. Now, you first have to unprotect the document before you can accept/ reject changes.

If you convert the text box into a frame you will then be able to insert comments.

It always pays to keep the Word file light by “linking” to pictures/ screen captures rather than embedding them in the document. You can work faster; updation of the images will not affect the file, and of course, it is easier to back up.

Could you post a sample document demonstrating the problem?

    • in reply to: Page number sections #518495

Outline numbering in combination with style definitions is excellent — the best way to “multi-purpose” the document.

However, simply outline numbering without use of styles is also possible.
