    • Thanks.. sounds like a program that I used to have under WindowsXP.. Startup Cop I think it was. I will give this a shot and see what I can find.. in any case it looks like a fine utility to have. Thanks for the link

    • Thanks Dave.. this is a family website behind a password protection thing so I would rather not post the URL. I have solved my own problem.. by removing one line of code at a time until I found the offending line I have it working. There is a lot of code in this borrowed (with permission) code and some of it is redundant or conflicts with my css. It currently works.. which I know is not the correct way to develop web pages…

For what it is worth many months later, I have figured it out and have left my code at the above mentioned forum

Not when I do it.. I just see garbage both times

Many websites use favicon.ico in the same root that houses the index.html page. For example, Windows Secrets is http://www.windowssecrets.com/favicon.ico. You can create a folder in your userDocuments folder to store icons for your favorite shortcuts, and redirect the shortcut to find its icon there. Those will usually stay.

Possibly that is why my favicon shows. But the bigger question that remains to be answered is WHY.. favicon’s that worked just fine in XP, transparent backgrounds and all, do not work in Windows7. One would think that by now.. how many years later.. MS would have fixed this.. and about a dozen other things they broke. Instead they build Window8.. now there is a goofy desktop system if I ever saw one.

      Thank you Medico.

Your batch file works.. but for only one smarticon (thanks Zig). The one that it worked on is the one to my own website..
The working smarticons (2 out of ~15) do not have a transparent background though.. The default SeaMonkey ones do

In Device Manager is your modem listed? Right clicking > Properties will bring up a place to run a diagnostic.. (Query modem) Does that work? Do the other settings look reasonable.

Thanks Bruce. That program looks like it will make the required changes. I am surprised that MS does not include this ability in its Windows7 short of hacking the registry itself.

Lots of alternate solutions.. I just want my “preview” to work.

    • in reply to: Default program to view animated gif files #1355974

Right.. I get that as well (along with a half dozen others) but when I click “Preview” it opens in “Windows Photo Viewer”. If.. I select as my default program IE then that works.. but it STILL opens in the Windows Photo Viewer from preview.

    • in reply to: Default program to view animated gif files #1355740

Thanks.. I have my GIF’s (and all pictures) to open with ACDSee. But… as there is a preview tab (with a right click) why can I not have MS provide the correct program. If MS has IE as the default program to preview a GIF then where is that setting. The “Open With” selection allows one to set a default program.. but it does not (evidently) set the “preview” selection.

Thanks Jerry.. that is exactly my problem. I am surprised that MS has not seen fit to fix this.. or that anyone has accurately defined what causes it.

One would think.. Our IT department is not much for planning. Will try the XP mode route.. if it doesn’t work we can perhaps justify a better computer.. software upgrades are harder.
      Thanks

Question now moot, using a different approach. Thanks to anyone that considered my problem

    • Thanks Steve
That was the problem:blush:. My buttons set up a true / false thing and those cells were locked.

      Thanks again
