    • … The only other reference that I’ve checked out was for IE 9 but this same option is in IE 11 which I’m going to try to see if I get any more of the prompts.

Tools – Internet options – Security tab – Custom level – scroll down to Scripting and for Enable XSS filter, check the Disable button – but it didn’t work for all …

Well, tried that and it seems to have worked, so many thanks.

    • Many thanks for the replies folks – glad to see I’m not the only one having this problem (incidentally I also get it on here when I try to post a reply to a thread).

Will try Sudo15’s suggestion (post #3) and will let you know if it works – tomorrow (22:30 here in the U.K. after a tiring day !)

    • You will need to install the printer as a new install onto the new machine.

HP have an Universal print driver for your model if needed after the install –

Many thanks for that link. I knew I’d have to do a reinstall but hadn’t been able to find the appropriate print driver. Will give it a try in the morning (22:30 after a busy day here in the U.K.) ; assuming it works you’ll have saved me £400/£500 in cost of replacing !

I’m continually getting these spoof we-mails from various sources ; PayPal is a favourite though I have had numerous ones from various banks (with whom I don’t do business) telling me my account is to be limited/closed. Just had five messages in last two weeks telling me my Apple account is to be closed. Haven’t got an Apple account, never had one, don’t want one.

I do however tend to forward these e-mails (as attachments) to the security department of the appropriate organisation before deleting them completely.

get this here in the U.K. too. The last two times it was, as usual, an Indian sounding voice telling me that he was from Microsoft and that I had multiple problems ; viruses, etc., on my P.C. I asked him for some details – like WHICH machine; WHAT viruses ; WHAT I should do about it.

After listening to his crap for 2 or 3 minutes on each occasion, I interrupoted, told him I knew he was a liar, he was NOT from Microsoft, and I also knew that ALL my machines were clean. I then advised him to follow the advice in the Bible and to “go forth and propogate” (well, perhaps I din’t say that, but used a shorter Anglo-Saxon term, the second syllable of which was “off !” I then hung up.

On both occasions, within a few minutes I had another (again Indian-accented) caller telling me that I had been rude to his member of staff and that he would be taking me to court and charging me with harrassment. I denied that it was such, and suggested that if he didn;’t believe me he could visit me at home, when I would be pleased to demonstrate what harrassment was !

    • in reply to: Annoying problem with new tabs #1332506

No, Roderunner, not at all. I do use AVG PC Tuneup. but it doesn’t run at start-up ; interestingly I also have the same “problem” on my laptop, which rund under Win7 Home Premium. as I said in my original post, I find it strange because, having re-set it, IE works just as I want it to – even if I close it down and re-open it. However, if I dod a complete shut-down and re-boot, we’re back to the “Blank screen” option.

And no, I don’t delete my browsing history.

Strange one this – I could understand it if it re-set every time I close IE (which is usually only at the end of a day, although I’ve tried it out to see if this problem recurred then) but it only happens when I close down completely !

I tell you – at times I think “bring back DOS 6 – all is forgiven !” I knew what I was doing in those days !

    • in reply to: Annoying problem with new tabs #1332432

Thanks Ted, but I know that and do it ; however, as I said, when I close down (switch off completely that is), upon re-boot this setting defaults back to “blank screen” – that’s what is so annoying, given that if I click on “Restore Defaults” it shows the default as being the New Tab page !

As I say, this doesn’t applu if I merely close IE ; only when I shut down completely !

    • in reply to: Windows Live Mail autodownloads despite setting #1289909

“Automatically download message when viewing….” is clear

“Returning Read Receipts” is set to “Notify me for each request”.

The thing I find strange Joe is that this is intermittent ; one or two e-mailsseem to ‘slip through’ whilst others in the same batch don’t.

Incidentally, I have tried not using Mailwasherbefore ; the same anomaly happens. When working in Outlook Express I never had this problem ; set it to “Don’t automatically download” and it did as it was told ! That’s why I’m sure Mailwasher is not an issue but rather a red herring. All Mailwaher does is allows me to view the first few lines of an e-mail and decide whether to accept or reject it. It also alerts me to potential spam but its’ only link with WLM is that, when I click on “Wash Mail” it deletes any I’ve so marked (presumably it sends a message to the Server to with-hold – I’m no techie so I don’t quite know the process) and then opens WLM for me ; I still have to tell WLM to download e-mails. It should NOT be doing it autonatically.

I expect there’s one setting I’ve not got right but I don’t know which !!

    • in reply to: Windows Live Mail autodownloads despite setting #1289849

Thanks for that Joe – I’d already thought of that. I do have another account, barely used but set up in exactly the same way. in fact, I’ve had no messages coming through there “improperly”.

    • in reply to: Windows Live Mail autodownloads despite setting #1289824

Thanks, but i don’t think the problem is with Mailwasher ; WLM is set not to automatically receive messages and yet it still does, intermittently. It’s set NOT to use its own Junk Mail filter yet it does !

To clarify, Mailwasher isn’t controlling WLM ; all it does is display new e-mails, allow me to decide what to do with them, deletes any I don’t want from the server then opens up WLM ; I still have to then tell WLM to read the messages.

    • in reply to: Windows Live Mail autodownloads despite setting #1289707

No, I don’t use a Windows Live ID ; I haven’t got anything on either “whiote” or “black” lists in WLM as I rely on my settings in Mailwasher.

Funnily enough, WLM has just downloaded an e-mail from a relative that never appeared in Mailwasher. Why should it be downloading ANYTHING – even if I didn’t have a separate programme filtering things – when I’ve set it not to download automatically ?

    • in reply to: “Error loading extiSv2.dll” #1209220

Thanks Ted – I eventually have traced that folder by using the advanced search and including hidden files but I can’t find that .dll file either in the C:UsersRayAppdatalocal or anywhere else.

Any suggestions as to what I can now do ?

    • in reply to: IE7 persistently stops on me #1173032

Is this broadband connection a “shared cable” or a “DSL” type of connection?

      It’s a DSL connection Dave

    • Sorry it’s taken three months to get back here people ; it wasn’t until I checked this thread again today because I needed the info again that I realised I hadn’t acknowledged that the information given was spot on – that Microsoft article said to run ACMBOOT.EXE direct from the root directory instaead of trying to load it through the autorun.

Many thanks and apologies for the delay

    • in reply to: Problems with Combo box after conversion (97) #662031

      Hans :

Yes, thanks, I take the point. In fact, the field fldBanCode in the table tblCopyChequesArchive is in fact empty – it’s only fldBankccount that gets updated (in fact that’s all that is needed in there). The field fldBankAccount in tblBankAccounts is only there because traditionally all of our bank accounts (as a Local Authority we have many) are referred to by a two-character code ; this is obviously less prone to error when *anybody* may be doing the input than typing in the full 8-digit Bank Code.

For our purposes, however (we are the Banking and Control Section) it is necessary to quote the full and correct account number to the bank – since whilst a Bank Account/Cheque No combination is unique, the same cheque no may appear for each Bank Account at some time. In fact, the Bank Code, although there is a field for it, is not recorded.

My real headache though is WHY is it that, when you type 02, 03, 04 etc in the combo box does it only recognise that as 01, or at least converts it to 01, yet if you type in 10, 25, W1, 73, etc., it accepts those combinations without difficulty ? – also, why do I have the oproblem now, when it has worked fine (for over 3 years) when it was a numeric field ?

      As a matter of interest, I have just typed in 00 (which is a valid input) and it accepts that !! Just won’t accept 02, 03, 04, 05, 06, 07, or 08 (09 doesn’t exist) – replaces all of them with 01 !!
