I have the exact same problem. Could you possibly give me a better idea of exactly where to look in the Registry, like which of the five screens that pop up and where within there?? Thx!! -Rich.

    • in reply to: HTML vs. RTF Format (Outlook 2000 SR1-a) #601236

Sorry. I don’t think I was clear in my first message. I don’t want to change the format of an incoming message. What I want to do is change the way Outlook displays certain messages. They can retain their format. If you go into Tools, Options, Mail Format, you can select HTML, RTF, or Plain Text as the default. I’d like to be able to switch between HTML and RTF without having to click through so many menus. That’s what I’m looking for. Thx. -Rich.

Thanks. I’ll try it. If I don’t select something in Perform Actions, then the Rule won’t take and I get an error. I guess that was my problem. I didn’t think I could do something simple like put a copy of the email somewhere. -Rich.

Here is where I’m confused. I’m at the Edit Rule dialog. I can set some conditions on the top half (e.g., sent directly to me). But then I’m confused about which option to select in “Perform these actions”. What if I just want the action to be: reply with the standard OOO message that I already typed in the AutoReply box? That doesn’t seem to be an option. I’m looking for some manual on what all of these options do. Maybe I could copy my entire company’s email list into the FROM box and only have my OOO message sent to those people. This might be what I want to do. But again, I can’t figure out what to set in Perform These Actions after I set a condition. Thx. -Rich.

Yea, I have found the rule section. I’m looking for more help on what type of rules to develop and how to develop them. I suppose the easiest would be that I’d only like my out of office message (which is typed in the box above the rules buttons) to go to internal email address (my att.net email is forwarded to the the office, which is how I get all of my spam). I can’t figure out how to do this. It looks like I might have to create a form reply instead of using the Out of Office message at the top of the dialog, but I’m not sure. Any suggestions?? Thx. -Rich.

    • Thanks for the ideas. I’ll try them. But, I would think Insert/Database would work because I’ve formatted the Word doc to merge the data into a table with fields in various cells. I have never used INCLUDETEXT, but my sense would be that I’d have to use it for each record in the data sheet, or at maybe even for each field? I’ll check it out, though. Thx. -Rich.

    • Thanks for the idea. My similar idea is that I set up my file with all the info I need except for the merge portion, which would be in its own file, and then merge to the separate file, and then import the merged file into the main file. However, it seems to me that I ought to be able to set up a file like this:

      Introduction
      Rules
      Other Junk

      Summary
      Closing

My intent would be to have static text surrounding the merged text, but if I do the above, at least the way I’ve structure my file at this point, all the static text repeats for every record in the merge. I’ll probably be branded a heathen for saying this, but I’m pretty sure I can do this in WordPerfect, but Word just won’t cooperate, at least as far as I can figure out. I shouldn’t have to merge to a separate file just to get the data all by itself into a table.

      Thx.

      -Rich.

    • Thanks. I thought of that, but I only want it on the first page. I guess I could adjust the page setup so that I have a different header on subsequent pages. I also could add the text after running the merge, but that doesn’t seem the most efficient. I would think there must be some way to do this and not have it repeat. Thx. -Rich.

    • Thanks for the idea. I actually have that on by default. Maybe it’s just a screen problem? I thought I read somewhere that if you use the Full Just. like WP6, that it prints OK, but may not display on screen? I’m trying to find a doc now that made me think of this issue and check it out. I think I found one, and it doesn’t look right on screen, but it prints OK. So, I guess maybe it’s just a screen anomaly and not a printing problem. Thx. -Rich.

Thanks. That’s what I needed. -Rich.

    • in reply to: Start menu order #1789485

I was wondering about the sort order as well (saw your post from Jan 01). Is there some way to set the sort order as “sort by name” by default on the Start Button? I think that everytime I make a change, I’ll have to right-click and re-sort (I have to do this with Win ME at home, although there is a re-sort button on the menu options for task bar items). Thx. -Rich.

    • in reply to: Default Printer Won’t Stick #549104

Yes, printer is on network. As far as I know, profile is being saved. But, for some reason, it is now sticking. The only thing I did differently was rename it when I installed it. It was defaulting to HP LaserJet 5N for the name, so I added P517 to the beginning and now it sticks. Strange. Thanks for your help anyway! -Rich.

    • in reply to: Default Printer Won’t Stick #548840

I’m on a network. It hasn’t been sticking even when connected. Network is domain type. Should have roving profiles, but IP address might change. I think it was sticking yesterday, but not today. I install by either use the install printer wizard and going out to the print server on the network, or else opening network neighborhood and dragging the printer from the server to the Printers dialog (which then pops up a menu with Install as an option). Thx. -Rich.

    • in reply to: Error 1500.Another Installation in Progress #545411

I think that’s my next step. However, this is a company laptop, so it’s not as easy as me just running the Win 2000 install over again. I’d have to get the company IT dept to do a Ghost image over the current one, and I haven’t been getting much response from them lately. I’ll have to push harder, though. Thx.
