You may want to try somethign like Mail Monkey. You can setup lists and mail out directly without the email having to go through your ISP.

Well I got my new extrenal drive. Hooked it up Windows recognized it right away and installed the drivers. Then it got me to thinking. I detached every external device and checked to make sure that I didn’t have any CD/DVD devices listed in device manager. (I had tried this once already) and rebooted my machine. BINGO. my tsst is back in business. I then plugged in the external devices and its still up and going. Then I rebooted again. And its still there. GO figure!!

Thanks for all the suggestions. I’ve just gone ahead an bought a new external DVD +- RW form ebay. That should take care of the issue!

Well Belarc is not identifying it correctly. Its suppose to be a tsstcorp dvd+-rw ts-l632d driver, belarc has it a a generic CD drive.

Could be a defective DVD lens. Doesn’t seem likely as I was using it the day before I upgraded to Win 7.

Not a huge deal. I’m bidding on a extrenal DVD writter on ebay. Still it would be nice to have the internal one working.

I’m sure that if I can find a driver (ACER doesn’t identify it for me, and TSST is a little confusing) I be able to get it going. I’ll keep trying.

Yah that has alot of firmware updates. Not sure that I need to do that. Really I just need the proper DVD driver. Its working as a CD drive, but needs the DVD driver.

Yup. Now I’ve been looking at the Acer site and I’m wondering if the driver I need is the SATA driver. But I’m not familiar enough with the drivers on my laptop to just go ahead and install it as I’m afarid it would affect my harddrive! Any thoughts on that?

The driver page is :ACER Drivers

and its the notebook, Aspire, 9300, Vista 9 (Thats what use to be on it) I’m thinking it might be the NVIDIA SATA driver!

Its the 32 bit version. DVD’s are not recognized at all. CDs not problem, either commercial software ones or ones I’ve burned. But not DVDs , even the ones I burned on that drive before upgrading to Windows 7.

I mean worst come to worst I’ll buy an external DVD + – RW, but I’d rather have that one working like it should.

Yah tried updating the drive Windows says the proper driver is installed, but its not.

The DVD’s are data and video. The CDs work thought, so I know that the drive is functioning, just not with the rigth driver.

So the drive will read CDs but not DVDs. Acer is no help they don’t have any drivers for the DVD. And so far I’ve been fruitless in finding ones on the net. I’d really like to be able to read and write DVDs again. Any help?

    • in reply to: Windows 7 upgrade problem #1213434

The drive says its ready to go in Device Manager, but if I put a CD or DVD in the drive it just click-click-clicks and doesn’t seem to be reading!

I’ve tried to find the Vista Driver but its not anywere to be found on ACers site. I’ve tried to find anuy drivers at TSSTCorp but its not very easy to find!

I use Rocketdock and have found it to be a great solution. You can even adjust the size of the dock an dicons to take up less space. It docks to the top, bottom left or rights sides of the screen. I’ve even been able to use the MAC Leopard icons (my MAC using friend is very upset at me LOL). Very customizable with extra Docklets, like stacker!
