how often are those links rebuilt??

I don’t need to do this often but i do not want to do an install and then find out there is 4 levels of patches (replacing 75% of the files)

      a couple things
1 the ISO file for win 7 SP1 is floating about so you can get your hands on it if you look hard enough (just be sure of what you are grabbing)
2 its a better idea to use one of many utilities to predownload the set of patches and not risk getting hit by a drive-by doing the WU and reboot shuffle

okay its a little bit more complex than you are doing

1 “burn” only applies to iso (and related formats) when you are sending them to a plastic disc (otherwise its just copy like a normal file)
2 what you will need to do is grab a copy of 7Zip (or some other archive tool) and then uncompress/unpack the ISO to a NEW EMPTY FOLDER
3 You will now see all the files that were inside the ISO (which BTW is a disc image sort of like doing a photocopy of a CD)
4 copy your other file to that folder
5 open a new project in infrarecorder and then drag the folder with your files to the new image
6 burn that or create a new image and burn as required

    • in reply to: OUCH!!! Need to upgrade SP2 to SP3 #1234055

One trick that can be used to do the update especially if you have to do this for “civilians” is to

1 have a nice large portable hard drive to stage from and a bootable copy of your backup solution
2 grab the network install packages for the SPs you commonly have to deal with (XP Vista and 7 when it has one)
3 download Autopatcher* and build an update “farm”
4 do your pre update prep
5 drop the network connection and disable all the bells whistles and gongs
6 run the SP update and then run Autopatcher
7 restore the Bells and Whistles

      * a note here
A if you have some other tool that works subsitute the point is to have all of the updates up to the last “patch tuesday” ready for install
B Autopatcher pulls its payload files directly from the OEM (Microsoft Sun Adobe ect) so it is in fact quite “legal”
