AskWoody LoungerVery simple, install VirtualBox (freeware) and reinstall yr version of Win7 within. Yr current key will activate it. Reinstall whatever programs you prefer plus drag and drop any data folder/files you would like to keep. It’s similar to a back up but better because once you have a new Win10 machine you can transfer this vm into it. Now you have all yr previous data and can even run Win7 on yr Win10 machine, both operating systems will function at the same time, no reboot required.
Some folk have XP, Linux, Win95, Win 3.x and even Mac OS X running on Win7 and or Win10.
You can even use yr external drive but I’ve no experience in that direction. -

AskWoody LoungerScribus is an open source program that might interest you.
Thanks dogberry I do have Scribus but an old version of Pagemaker is the one I require because I received a large qty of p65 files from a lady that used to be into DTP.
I want to play with these files and nothing else can open them. I read somewhere that I can change extension .p65 to .pmd and a later version of Pagemaker will open them.
I’ll just have to go on searching. -

AskWoody LoungerThanks dogberry, resolved, I now found yr source but Adobe decided to remove the offer. Pity to have missed it.

AskWoody LoungerPageMaker is also readily available, but I don’t know what else.
Hi dogberry, noticed your remark and searched high and low for PageMaker but cannot find it, do you have a link by any chance?

AskWoody LoungerMoney makes the world go round.
This is common practice, with or without the user’s knowledge.
When Privatefirewall is offered to an end-user as part of a paid package deal (online or CD/DVD) then the reseller is responsible for support. The reseller may even rebrand and/or modify Privatefirewall to his specs. This all happens in agreement between Privatefirewall and the reseller, both profit from it, it’s known as “revenue sharing”.I’m not complaining because that could be the reason why Privatefirewall is and remain totally free. It’s not a crippleware version of a “pro” version.
I’ve been through Sygate, ZA, Outpost, Online Armour, PC Tools, Panda, Comodo, Ashampoo, Jetico and Kerio but Privatefirewall is the only one that allows me to carry on using my puter w/o endless fiddling. If there is a pop-up it makes sense and I can make a decision within a second. Running on four PCs w/o hiccups and I filter & block as I like. -

AskWoody LoungerNovember 28, 2013 at 1:48 pm in reply to: WLM v2009: junk vs blocked senders? Are they the same? #1425548Hi klxdrt
I hear you load and clear, I also stuck to Windows Live Essential 2009 for emailing, that is v14.0.8117.0416 of Windows Live Mail. KISS is the reason and also with the later editions MS removed some options that I still require.
Junk e-mail and blocked senders not the same. If you use the right-click option “Mark as junk” it will be moved but next time you will need to repeat the same exercise.
If you right-click an email and select “Add sender to blocked list” it will automatically be moved to yr Junk folder in future. The sender’s name will then appear in yr Blocked Senders list, you can remove any sender at a later stage as you plse. -

AskWoody LoungerOctober 13, 2013 at 2:17 pm in reply to: Windows Explorer in Windows 7—did I create this problem? #1416593Hi Marianswede
You actually never “save” anything to a library folder, it’s a virtual function and just shortcuts you see. I also found it very confusing although many folk find it very handy. In my case I’m quite happy saving whatever in folders as I like w/o this option. I decided to remove all references to Libraries inside Explorer, see http://www.askvg.com/how-to-disable-libraries-feature-in-windows-7/I’m running W7 Pro 64-bit and it worked for me.

AskWoody LoungerHi Murgatroyd
This seldom happens but it is due to a MS patch/update. It is a Reg entry that changes but it can fixed very easily.
Go to http://www.sevenforums.com/general-discussion/240025-could-not-find-item-error-when-moving-files-specific-folder.html and scroll down to the entry by lonny, use his link and download the FolderFix.zip file. Open the zip on yr desktop and select yr OS version, either x64 or x86, double-click the Reg entry to apply it. It will give you two pop-ups, that’s it.
Save the zip because you may need it again in future. -

AskWoody LoungerJune 30, 2012 at 10:31 am in reply to: How to install Windows XP on new (Win7) computer — or can I? #1338524Just understand that XP Mode is only available in Win 7 Pro and Win 7 Ultimate.
Very true unless you go the VMLite Workstation (freeware) route, then you may run XP Mode even on a Win95 OS. Completely virtual and XP can be started with a desktop icon, no dual boot hassles.

AskWoody LoungerOkay, problem resolved. The heatsink/cooling fan is clipped down with two thick round wire lever springs, top and bottom. The top one can not be clipped in because a small plastic hook missing, broken off. This spring wire clips in with a pretty hefty force and although the bottom one still in place the heatsink now swings open permanently and not even touching the CPU.
I visited two shops and both claim that for the 478 mount nothing available, too old technology, buy a new PC from us.
Luckily I found a 3rd shop and they have the Scythe Mugen 2 Rev.B model SCMG-2100 (a monstor size) and it is freely available. The catch is that I’ll have to remove the complete motherboard. Hopefully no damage done to the CPU at this stage. Thanks folks for yr fast response, tomorrow I’ll collect and install.

AskWoody LoungerThanks deadeye81, I will work through all yr suggestions and report back.
Roderunner, could the BIOS go belley up after a session of MS updates? I’m in any case adding it to my list.
