The fact that some vertical apps are tied so intimately to Windows can be a deterrent. I have depended on AutoCAD and other CADD apps based in Windows since 1995.

      Greetings!

My problem of intermittent slow internet remains. I have discovered that instead of rebooting the whole system, disconnecting and reconnecting the wireless session fixes the problem.

If someone has a thought of how to fix this, instead of having to use the work around, I would be in your debt.

      Regards,
      Ron

Thanks for the counsel, Ted. I will give this a try.

My grandfather was an inventor and electronics experimenter (invented a rectifier for first successful plug-in radio in 1926). Somehow Fred’s computer reminds me of my grandfather’s workshop in Studio City, CA.

      Good point, Fred. Thanks! Ron

Yeah, I have tried this sort of thing in the past, but experimental efforts with not-often used skills sometimes end badly. Then I would have wasted the time and needed a new drive anyway. I have just decided to go with another drive. Cheaper, I think.

      Many thanks!

Yes. I think that is a reasonable conclusion. Amazing how dependent we are of the weakest of links! Like the coil wire on your v-8.

      Many thanks!

      Dear Fred,

Norton 360 4 marks Old-Version.net, mentioned in your article on “Sources for free versions of older software,” released today, as a malicious site with 28 computer threats and 2 identity threats.

Thought you would want to know.

Thanks for your great work. I’ve enjoyed Windows Secrets and its precursors for years now.

Also, I am perplexed. Your Start New Thread button is not showing up on the Lounge pages. Thanks!

      Regards,

Copied whole contents to new blank Doc. Undo works. Duh. Thanks, Ron

I can’t replicate your environment, and this may not be relevant to your document, but I thought I would mention it anyway. Undo generally operates on AutoCorrect, AutoText, and AutoFormat actions independently from the word or character which was typed. You can see this two-step Undo process most often in the case of “Smart Quotes,” but it pops up in other cases as well. If someone were to have attached an AutoText or AutoCorrect to the letter e, or if it was AutoFormat’ed, then you might see occasional instances of Undo typing e alone. Just a thought.

Good thought. I will test this premise. I wish I could post the file itself, but it is a proprietary manuscript.

      Many thanks!

      Hey Rory,
      >>Assuming your planned stationery isn’t too complicated, you might find it easier to simply edit one of the existing stationery htm files via Notepad.

This is a good idea! Actually all I really wish to do is add a single jpg graphic which amounts to an e-letterhead. But that seems to be the rub.

      >>As far as creating pages in Word is concerned, I seem to recall reading somewhere that you cannot do that effectively if Word is your email editor too,

I do not use Word as my email editor. Still doesn’t work. My only work around is either to use a template in Word and Send to/E-mail recipient, or Insert/Picture to place the letterhead graphic from Outlook New Mail Message.

Thanks for the contribution to the quest.
      Regards,
      Ron

      >>Word’s HTML is quite verbose, but there are some clean-up tools out there. What might work is to Save As Web Page to a folder and then pick out the critical pieces (i.e., .htm and .png files) and hand-edit the HTML before moving it into the Stationery folder. Probably not what you want to hear, but I think that will give you the best results.

I suspected the Word HTML file was the problem. Total Office integration? I just got done shoveling three feet of snow off my driveway in the Sierras. Hand-editing an HTML file ought to be at least as much fun!

      Many thanks,
      Ron
