My DVD player has been replaced, but I am still having problems with Windows Media Player. I can’t turn it off and then on in Windows Features because the window for that is blank. Without that working how can I uninstall/reinstall WMP?

Sudo15, yes and the Windows tool failed as well.

Sudo 15, I have the .iso for 14391, but I can’t burn it to a DVD because I get the calibration error every time. I’m wondering whether to roll back to 14936. What do you think?

      Yes.

Rick, the command was referred to in post#2.

      Sudo15, I tried it on Win 10 Pro 64 bit Build 14942.

Sudo 15, when I tried to run the admin command “dism /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup” I was told it was not applicable “in this context”,or words to that effect. Can you explain this please?

    • in reply to: Windows Media Player #1581121

Yes I did and it didn’t solve the problem.

The problem with Windows Features has returned.

Sudo 15, I have 3 ATA Channel 0 Controllers and only one refers to DMA in Properties. That one had Ultra DMA Mode 6 enabled.

Sudo 15, I’ll take my tower to my local computer technician to look at the CD/DVD player. I looked at the website you kindly gave me a link for, but “IMAPI CD-Burning COM Service” is not on my computer. Should it be, and if so where can I get it from?

Sudo 15, I tried everything you said but still get the “Power Calibration Area is full” message when trying to burn a disk image. Also WMP is still not responding most of the time. One improvement is that Windows Features now works, but turning WMP off and then back on did not solve anything.

      Any other ideas?

45739-Screenshot-10_10_2016-07_41_08Further to my previous post, and clutching at straws, I thought I’d try turning WMP off in Programs and Features, but when I clicked “Turn Windows Features On Or Off” no features appeared. Apart from that I tried to burn a DVD from the .iso file for Build 14942, using ImgBurn but the attached screenshot shows the error message I received, which makes me think my DVD player is on the blink. Could that have a bearing on these problems?

Coochin, thanks but I have had Media Player Classic for some time, and use it to watch all my videos. I also have VLC Media Player, but was hoping to sort out WMP as I like it for playing audio cds accompanied by visualisations from G-Force.

Did the sfcdetails.txt file relate in any way to WMP?

Browni, thanks a lot. When I searched I didn’t find the link you kindly referred me to.

I tried to create a DVD from the .iso file using ImgBurn, which I’ve had no problem doing before, but it failed due apparently to a “power calibration area error”.
However, I double clicked on the .iso file and then ran setup.exe, and was surprised at how quickly installation of Build 14931 completed. Windows Update is working, and Build 14942 is now downloading, so thanks again.

      Regards, Roy

      Coochin, version 1607 Build 14393.222.

Browni, thanks. I just assumed I had remained in the fast ring. What’s happening now is that when I check for updates none are listed but I am told there were problems installing updates. I have tried using various Fixits but the problem remains.

HELP! I don’t want to be stuck on Build 14393 for ever.
