AskWoody LoungerApril 9, 2016 at 8:31 am in reply to: Assigning a decent user name to a factory restored computer #1559386Note that while you can create a new user and delete the original, the original user’s name will still be plastered all over the place in the Windows Registry.
Hence, if you ever plan on giving the computer to someone else to use, best to start out with some generic name like “Preferred Customer”, “Wiley Coyote”, “Uncle Bubba”, etc.

AskWoody LoungerMy final aim is to restore the “normal” situation I had before this glitch occurred.
Do you have a Restore Point a bit earlier than when the ‘glitch’ happened?
Try using System Restore to roll Windows back to a point in time when your computer was functioning correctly. It allows you to undo system changes without affecting your personal files, such as e-mail, documents, or photos. For example:

If that doesn’t help, try restoring an earlier system image or backup.

AskWoody LoungerFWIW, my “WD My Passport 2TB Portable External Hard Drive Storage USB 3.0 Black” was purchased from Amazon.com on 12/23/2012, lives in my right back pocket and is still going strong.

AskWoody LoungerFWIW, the WD Passport I linked to above comes with it’s own auto-backup software that is easy to use.

The following versions of Microsoft Office with the latest Service Packs have been confirmed to be compatible with Windows 10:
Office 2016 Preview
Office 2013/Office 365
Office 2010 (exception Office Starter 2010)

Older versions of Office such as Office 2003 and Office XP are not certified compatible with Windows 10 but might work using compatibility mode. -

AskWoody LoungerIn order for your HP hardware to work with Windows, you need Windows-compatible drivers that have been created by HP for their HP hardware to work with Windows.
