No new hardware or driver updates. I have always heard about drivers “if they ain’t broke don’t fix them” so I usually leave them alone. I was unable to do a system restore for some reason. I tried three different dates and the process wasn’t completed.
I did, however, uninstall User Profile Hive Cleanup Service and it is shutting down now. Seems strange that uninstalling a program designed to help prevent shut down issues will solve a shut down issue.

No it doesn’t. Why should I have to go to all that trouble? In Firefox I hit t+b and the bookmarks list opens, the I hit the first eletter of the bookmark I want and it opens. two or three keystrokes. How hard is that to incorporate into a browser?

    • in reply to: Hybrid hard drives finally come of age #1251243

I bought one of these and after I tried to put an image of a hard drive on it it didn’t show the full capacity of the drive. After many e mails to Seagate Support they finally told me: “please bear in mind that using any conventional 3rd party disk partitioning or cloning application other than a Windows install disk, Windows Disk Management, or the Disk Utility with Mac, will break these hybrid drives”
      What good are they then?

I am starting it from a normal desktop icon.
The issue was resolved when I reset IE.

    • in reply to: Why are some of my folders not accessible? #1216817

      John:
here are two screen shots. One of a folder called “documents and settings” the other of the folders I mentioned in Public documents.
I didn’t create either of these folders or their locked contents.

I tried right clicking properties and permission then I tried to allow “Everyone” to share but I was not able to accomplish this. Also Why is the recycle bin locked?

    • in reply to: What caused resolution change? #1214904

Thanks Tim your guess was right. Screen expansion is disabled. I don’t know how this happened, I know I didn’t do it. At least I know what happened to change it.
Is there a way to mark a problem solved?

    • in reply to: What caused resolution change? #1214758

I don’t know how I could have done this but I will check my bios.

    • in reply to: What caused resolution change? #1213857

This is a laptop and I don’t believe I can change the refresh rate.

    • in reply to: Daylight Saving Time change problem #1213856

The time zone was correct. As I said earlier the problem corrected itself and is showing the correct time now

    • in reply to: What caused resolution change? #1213725

yes only the bootmenu and pre bios screen.
No changes to bios nor any recent flashes

    • in reply to: Daylight Saving Time change problem #1213442

It just reset it self. What is going on here?

    • in reply to: TRIM in Windows 7 #1212859

one post in your second link says:

      1)Open Disk Defragmenter
      2)Click the Configure schedule button
      3)Click the Select disks button

If the disk is missing from the list, then it has been detected as an SSD

My disk is not missing from the list.
      it also states:
If the superfetch and prefetch features are disabled, their registry value should be 0, please check if EnablePrefetcher and EnableSuperfetch are both set to 0.

mine are both set to 3
