Can anyone explain why–and it just happened again–no Internet connectivity from within Flock, Firefox, Safari, or MSIE, but inside Chrome, where I have a Yahoo account with e-mail chat, I could chat for as long as I wanted

One possible explanation is if your PC is talking to a DNS server that is not working – quite probably a DNS server in your router, but this depends on your setup.

When DNS is not working you can continue to access some things, because you have a locally cached record of the name to address translation, but you cannot access other things because you have no way to convert the hostname to an IP address.

If this is your problem then reconfiguring your PC to use OpenDNS might help.

when I try to map the drive, a box comes up for my user id and password. It accepts my windows sign-in user id but not any password. My user id doesn’t have a password.

Using network mapped drives from an account with a password sometimes works for some people, for reasons that I have never understood, but it causes problems like you are describing for most people most of the time.

The solution is to use a password.

    • in reply to: Acronis Beginner Questions #1204667

Acronis True Image has the option to backup sector-by-sector.
I noticed that this option will copy the full drive even empty space.
What is the purpose of this option?

There are a number of distinct reasons that I am aware of for using this option:

[*]You want to try and recover deleted files or data, or to carry out forensic analysis of a disk drive. You always make a sector by sector copy first and then store the original in a secure location so it can be used in evidence (or to try again if it all goes wrong)
[*]Your disk drive is encrypted in a way that prevents backup software from properly accessing the files. A sector by sector image backup can be used to recover even though Acronis cannot see the file system
[*]Your disk drive uses a file system that Acronis doesn’t understand, such as some Unix file systems or vendor recovery partitions

What software are you using to do the conversion? I do not have this problem when using Adobe Acrobat Pro.

Even when the mouse was new, there were times when (if I hadn’t placed it on the charging cradle the previous night) I had to interrupt my work to charge it. That inconvenience, combined with the battery which was non user replaceable, prompted me to purchase the MX1100 when it was time for a new mouse.

I managed this issue by buying two identical rechargeable mice. I always have one on the charger and one in use, and I just swap them over when the charge runs out. The initial outlay wasn’t that great and the pair of mice has lasted for years.

One simple option would be to put a blank row of the correct height, with no left, right or bottom border, at the bottom of the table.

Oi! You slipped in quietly! But I thought I heard the rustle of a Flake being unwrapped…

      Welcome back

You want to be careful who you call flaky round here, some people get offended mighty easily.

Was there only one IM made?

There was a sequel, but I never saw a copy.

If you get your old copy back don’t forget you need the instruction manual (or a list of all the passwords) each time you run the game.

Had the Incredible Machine, but gave it away when I went to something higher that Win 98se.

The Incredible Machine runs fine under DosBox on my 64 bit Windows 7 (and 32 bit Vista) computers.
