Even though I have all the folder options set to “show all”, “don’t hide this…show that”, “let me violate the system files”, etc…. the SCF extension does not appear in my windows directory. Only the name Explorer. I could only see the SCF extension under DOS. As you suggested, maybe Al could contribute to this as he saw it too. Also I am wondering if this is a difference between XP and XP Pro? I am using XP Pro. So much more to learn… So little time.

      Hi Dave…
I’ve found that the XP backup program is quite ample for my backup needs. (Accessories/Tools/Backup) It offer various options to including the entire hard drive, plus the option of a startup/recovery floppy disk for a complete system failure. I’ve tested it in various modes and find it works best if all other drives are disabled for the backup and it is backed up to a removable empty drive (or other media storage) capable of handling the size of the backup. (Typically 5Gig+ mimimum for the complete system backup) The advanced options provide selection of incremental backup and selected folders as well. In between these major backups I just manualy copy the data, documents, etc. folders to a second hard drive as “bckup 2″,”bckup 3”. etc. And then I make backups of my backups. 🙂

      Hi Al,
I don’t know where to get the lowdown offhand either but will let you know if I do find anything on them. You’ve probably noticed Mark’s message about the keystroke re win explorer. Simple and opens the way I want. You’re right about seeing a lot of new stuff with XP and 2M.

      Hi Mark…
It’s very similar to Win+E keystroke but it opens showing the C drive expanded in both left and right frames. I like your keystroke better though. It worked on mine as you had described. I don’t know why Win Explorer doesn’t open like that when opening from “Programs”/”Accessories”/”Win Explorer”. Oh well it doesn’t matter now that you’ve told me about the keystroke. (I’ve been using the various versions of Windows for over 12 years and still the only keystroke I know is Win+F. I guess I should take the time to learn more of them.)
      Thanks very much.

Thanks to you both. I’ll try some creative editing. In the meantime, I found a command file in the XP Windows folder simply called “explorer.” (not the “explorer.exe” file) Creating a shortcut to this file opens the Windows Explorer exactly as I like it.
