Tried Sygate…yeah, free to look in your system..but once they have your system details, $AUD 35 to do anything about any problems as they perceive it (ie, if it ain’t theirs, it’s a problem). I may as well go back to Billy G blocking the freeware products that worked so merrily with 98SE.
I’ll have to do some more research as to why ZA and SP2 don’t like each other I guess. (Has the financial bite finally hit the big B.G.??)
REally – I’m not naivie and don’t suggest XP isn’t the “now” operating system, but I don’t understand why msn is worried about a few freeware applications such as ZA and AVG working with their systems to benefit low end (usually family) users such as myself when they have in the past.
Politics and big business @#$!% me.

Sorry – “end of rant” I believe is the polite why to sign off after such a tirade

Thanks Joe – got it in one. (I guess my next question will come down the track…how do I use this restore feature when my system falls down. Not for now though, I will cross that delightful little problem when I come to it- sometimes ignorance is bliss)

      Thanks again to all

I know this is an old post, so I guess you have an answer, but I came across exactly the same problem the first time I used XP…It might be worth posting for other Woodies users (and it

Yeah Leif, have just started with XP with the new system…but think I may go back to 98SE. It’s not so much a case of being comfortable with what I know (although that is part of it), and I know XP has heaps more “grunt” – but hell, it seems to have more holes in it than last year’s socks. (We have it at work, and a dedicated team of techs still have a round the clock job patching it up and keeping it running), so I dunno if I will explore the XP restore option.
I may look at things like Ghost as Jscher suggested. Whether I persist with XP, or return to 98SE, I reckon they may save me a lot of work. I appreciate the amount of storage used, but heck, with 80gig now, and using less than 10% of that, I think I can make it work. (My old system had 10 gig between to hard drives….storage has gotten big and cheap quick!)
Will look to see if there are “demo” versions around and report back
      Thanks again folks

It’s weird Leif, but you were spot on about the landscape settings. Some newer games (eg unreal 2003) leave with me landscape screen, whilst old games (QIII) don’t – you’d think it would be the older games that would leave a trail of woe behind them. However, any of the games, and random times for no apparent reason, resize my desktop to 800 X 600. I will look at the sites, but the inconsistency of when things go wrong, and when the DON’T go wrong, makes it hard to pin down
It would almost be as challenging as the games themselves if it wasn’t so annoying LOL

Sorry – more to add. A friend suggested some games may affect registry settings, but he doesn’t know how, or what to do about it, rather than re do a video/graphic card uninstall and reinstall…does this steer anyone in a direction that they may be able to give me in english?

Okay, that make sense re sideways thanks Leif – but yeah, I am still totally perplexed by the upside down screen thing. It must be somethign minor, but I’m thinking I’m going to have to do a rebuild…arrghh. Still looking for help people!
(And I will try your suggestion to thanks KaplinB)
