• New Word DOC File Viewer – At Last!

The last time Microsoft updated its free file viewer for Microsoft documents, the big topic in computer circles was Y2K. No, I’m not making this up. The last free DOC viewer was released in March, 1999, and it handled Word 97 documents just fine.

I’m a bit flabbergasted to announce that, nearly six years later, Microsoft has finally released a free DOC file viewer that not only understands Word 97 documents, but also Word 2000, Word 2002 (the version in Office XP), and Word 2003 (er, Microsoft Office System Word 2003) DOC files.

Microsoft says the viewer will also allow you to view files in Rich Text Format (.rtf), HTML format, Microsoft’s beloved MHT “archive” format (which is just like HTML, except it squishes linked pictures in with the text), WordPerfect 5 and 6 format, Microsoft Works 6 and 7 format, and XML.

Well worth downloading, to stick in your bag o’ tricks.
