        The bigger surprise to me (than this report) is that the screenshots on the Upguard site show that Upguard is using Windows (if I’m not mistaken) to process and view this data.

        I wonder if that Windows machine is connected to the Internet, and if so, what protections does the “Upguard Cyber Risk team” take to lock down their machines to turn off telemetry?  Or do you think they’re using an enterprise version that doesn’t phone home as much or can be controlled?

      If ya know my favorite flicks and what toothpaste I like then you’re either sitting across the table in a real time friendly chat or we live together. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Not a FB user, bumper sticker says so.

      The closest that I have ever gotten to Social Media (FB et al) are computer forums. Everyone that I know or have known (including my children) just look at me with a blank stare when I tell them that I don’t use any of the Social Media apps.

      Fortunately the article above (and many others) proves my point. Things are bad enough with cell phones and computers being hacked 🙂 and it’s interesting that everybody wants you to go to the “Cloud” but nobody seems to protect anything in the “Cloud” LOL.

      I guess I’m just an old school person in a fading era.

      The stock has been teflon in spite of all the breaches and revelations but the HUD lawsuit for housing discrimination may get their attention.

      Interesting fact: Humans have been identifiably so for several hundreds of thousands of years and tens of thousands of generations (although new discoveries of fossils keep pushing that further into the past)

      Curious fact: Yet, in all that time and until about ten or fifteen years ago, nobody had heard of Facebook, Twitter and the rest of the commercial enablers of “let’s chat the hours away and show the whole world just how awesome we are” — the historically novel, socially acquired itch that has impelled those in-the-Cloud social networks to prominence. And nobody seemed to need badly enough having that kind of services either, at least that I can remember. Except, maybe, teenagers with unlimited access to their own telephone lines.

      Possibly Worrying fact: People using those networks are sharing more of their lives than they bargained for, courtesy of black hats that break into the huge server farms where their information is kept and steal it, something that makes the news repeatedly, as in the present case. Even those who do not belong to any of these social networks might consider whether someone they know might not have entered some of their personal information in their own accounts, so it is also kept in those servers.

      Ex-Windows user (Win. 98, XP, 7); since mid-2017 using also macOS. Presently on Monterey 12.15 & sometimes running also Linux (Mint).
