Hi. What I’m looking for sounds simple, but I’m stumped. I need a simple text editor that counts characters on a line (or in total) instead of inches. Mono spaced font of course. Anyone have any ideas? I’ve download about a dozen to try, and not one seems to do this. — Al

Do you consider spaces to be characters? What about tabs? What about the carriage-return/line-feed characters at the end of a line?

Notepad++ give character counts for the current selection and for the entire file. It includes tab characters and spaces, but not carriage-return/line-feeds.

The one program I know will count characters, spaces and edit is Office.
I use it to practice my speed WPM. Of course you have to buy it. $200.

PSPad (http://www.pspad.com/en/) probably has too many features to rate as “simple”, but it counts characters… choose File Info from the File menu.

Thanks for the suggestions. I’ll check them out, and see which works best for what I need. I did manage to track down another one … Crimson Editor.
