For a few weeks I have been having intermittent strange problems on my computer. Sometimes when I am viewing a news story the page just scrolls to the bottom of the page without me doing anything, when I try to drag the scroll bar back up sit seems as something is fighting me to prevent this but hitting the UP key it goes up normally.. This also happens in Notepad. Also in any search box the cursor sometimes advances to the right side of the box and I get the error sound like it keeps trying to go right. Sometimes when watching a video on VLC the video suddenly gets jerky and the pause/play icons continuously flash on the screen then this behavior quits and everything is normal.
Sometimes it goes days with nothing happening then it starts again. I had support from my AV/firewall co remote in and they found me with zero virus or malware. They suggested it may be a bad keyboard. Does this seem logical? Yesterday I changed to a different keyboard and nothing has happened since but like I said sometimes days go by with nothing happening, so I was wondering if these symptoms may be of keyboard going bad.

    Thanks for any advice. Jim

Keyboard maybe, my first thought was a worn mouse. If the centerclick is worn out or shorting slightly you may get some of those symptoms.

Sounds like an issue with the spacebar on the original keyboard. In a browser window, pressing the spacebar scrolls the page downwards. In a search box a sticking spacebar will advance the cursor to the far right. In VLC the spacebar is used to pause/unpause playback.

To test… try either an online keyboard checker or download the free Aqua’s KeyTest. It’s a tiny executable that doesn’t need installing.

      Hope this helps…

I changed to a backup keyboard the day I started this thread and have had zero symptoms of the problem. One earlier day when experiencing the problem I changed to a different mouse but still had problems so I kind of ruled out the mouse as causing the problem.

Today I ordered a new keyboard just like the last one a Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard. The old one was a used on that I purchased from a computer repair shop so I don’t know how long/much it had been used before I bought it. I did really like the layout though.

So I think the problem was a bad keyboard. Thanks to you who replied with idea’s and suggestions..

Well I just received my new keyboard and when I plugged it in I started having the same problems. Both keyboards are Microsoft Ergonomic Natural 4000. The temporary keyboard had zero problems but the same problems with the MS 4000 both plugged into the same USB port and I also tried other USB ports and still had the strange behavior.. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what is the problem. Is it a Motherboard problem?

What about drivers specific to that keyboard? Does it come with some and/or were they installed for the previous keyboard? If there are/they were then it could be corrupted drivers for that keyboard.
