I would like to know how to open 2 excel files in separate sessions. Right now they open in one session. I have checked in explorer under tools > folder options > file types > excel > advanced and took off the check to browse in same windows, but this did not work. I would like to see two sessions of excel running on the task bar, each with a separate file.

If anyone can help, I would really appreciate it..Thank you.

You will need to open Excel itself a second time – rather than attempting simply to open the file from Windows Explorer. HTH

Can’t you just open Excel twice (start -programs – ms Office – excel0 and then open a file in each one?

I think in the later versions (I still use XL97) there is an option in tools – options – view (tab) to open in windows in separate task bars, but am not sure when it started.

Select Options from the Tools menu. Click on the View tab and make sure that “Windows in Taskbar” has a check next to it.

I can’t see this option in Windows 2000. Is this through windows explorer?

If you are using the MS Office toolbar, then you will have to click twice on the Excel icon. This will give you two concurrent instances of Excel running. If you do not have the tool bar then you will need to click on Start>Programs>Microsoft Excel twice to get the same result. HTH compute

No, this is an Excel option, not a Windows option.. When you are in Excel, select Options from the Tools menu. Then follow the rest of my previous post.
