Using HP OfficeJet Pro 9015 (9010)

Updated 2004 with March KB5001649 2 days before Feature Updating to 20H2.

I just noticed since the updating that when I print something, all goes well, but the printer icon that use to show on the lower right corner of the Task Bar no longer shows up during the printing process.  Clicking on this icon use to open the Printer Queue wherein you could manage print jobs.

Going into “Settings>Personalization>Task Bar>Select which icons appear on the Task Bar”, the printer icon now shows up next to Window Explorer and it is OFF.  If I turn it ON, the printer icon will once again appear on the Task Bar during printing, but clicking on it opens/does nothing.

Settings>Devices>Printers & Scanners then selecting the HP Printer > Open queue box/tab will open the old printer queue dialogue box.

Anyone else notice this?  Suggestions for a fix?

How about a shortcut on the Desktop?
Open the Control Panel (icons view) and click on Devices and Printers.
Right click your default printer and opt to Create shortcut on the Desktop.
Or drag the printer icon onto the Desktop.
You can d/click this icon at anytime, not just when you are printing to see the print queue.

        Thanks for the cool video!

With the HP printer this short cut idea gets me a little closer as it opens an HP box with various links to other services, one of which is the printer queue, but does not open directly to the queue as yours does.

Still hoping to find out why the previous Task Bar printer Icon got messed up.

Check the Hidden Icons on the Taskbar:

        Thanks again but:

Going into “Settings>Personalization>Task Bar>Select which icons appear on the Task Bar”, the printer icon now shows up next to Window Explorer and it is OFF. If I turn it ON, the printer icon will once again appear on the Task Bar during printing, but clicking on it opens/does nothing.

To clarify further, wording next to the printer icon says “Windows Explorer”, then 0 documents pending.

Turning it ON makes the printer icon appear on the Task Bar, but clicking on it does nothing (as though its not programed to do anything.

When I opt to show Windows Explorer (Printer) (from the Settings > Select which icons appear on the taskbar) in the Notification Area:

. . . . it only appears when I have opted to print & during a print process.

During the print process, d/clicking that printer icon in the NA opens the print queue dialog box.

When the print process is finished, the print icon remains for a short period of time and does nothing on a left click (single or double). I can however right click the icon and it gives me the opportunity to Open Devices and Printers.

This behaviour may be specific to your installed print driver.

Thanks again.  Mine now seems to be working per your commentary above, with the comment that d/clicking the printer icon opens the print queue dialog box [as long as there is activity going on in the queue dialog box].  If a short/quick queue takes place, left d/clicking the printer icon does nothing, but right click opens Devices and Printers.
