Access 2000 Database

Hi.
I’m a Systems Administrator, not a applications expert. I have a problem with the Access 2000 database and conversion. Question: Has anyone come up with a way of using a Access 97 database (Fully) with a machine running Office 2000, without converting the database to the new format?
(I have user’s who want 2000 and some who want to remain with 97 !)I know the best way is just to tell them we’re going to Office 2000, BUT politics exist here !!

Use a front-end Back-end. Keep the tables (only) in the Access 97 format and link them to the database in Access 2000 format which has the queries, forms etc.

And expect the performance to suck! In previous versions, you could mix the front ends on a common back end and not notice any degradation. That has not been my experience with Access 2000 running against a 97 backend. Believe me, the headaches of trying to work with both versions far outweigh the screams of protest when you force the 97 people to upgrade. Just make sure there is someone on hand to fix the things that don’t work the same way in 2000, and don’t be shocked by the size increase when you convert the databases.

I agree with your comment about performance. Here I see around 20-30% drop in performance. However it does ‘solve’ the original question.
The best solution as you imply is that people upgrade to Access 2000. But internal politics…
