Anyone run into a patch in the past 30 days that’s effected permissions in the Users directory?

I’ve used one version of pdfFactory or another for far more years than I care to recall. My current version is 5.x and up until recently there hasn’t been a problem. But, after my May end of month Win7 update, I’ve run into a permissions problem. It is now getting an Access Denied error when it tries to write to it’s default folder (C:UsersXXXXDocumentsPDF Files). For now, I’ve moved the folder to C:Temp but I’d like to see if I can find what update broke this and why. Chances are this isn’t the only program that has been effected.

What are the user permissions on the folder?
What user does pdfFactory run as?

      cheers, Paul

User permissions are full for my account and administrators and have not changed. The thing is, this is a change in behavior that occurred right after an update. Odds are good that one of the 10-20 May updates created this issue.

      Re-install pdfFactory?

I could, but pdfFactory isn’t what has changed. It wasn’t updated, Windows was. For now, I just changed the directory it uses for files, but it bugs me that I have no idea what might have changed and what else might be effected by this that I haven’t yet found out.

I sure can’t tell you what changed, as I have Windows Auto Update turned OFF for Windows 7.

But I do have to ask…. “Have you ever heard of “Take Ownership”, or “Grant Admin Full Control” ??
‘Grant Admin Full Control’ is like ‘Take Ownership’ on steroids.

Once you install G.A.F.C., you can Right Click on any file or folder and become the Owner of it.
It’s one of the first programs that I install, on any new install of Windows. (7, 8.1 or 10)

      Good Luck,
      The Doctor 😎

Since this involves my own User directory, I am the owner – which I have checked. I have not heard of the latter but will have a look.

So far, nothing else has started showing signs of a problem, but there’s software that I don’t use more than once a month or once a quarter. Whatever this is, I would expect by now to have seen other people having a similar problem. I’m wondering if it might be a shared DLL that has changed.
