I would like to write a COM object that accesses the messages in an Outlook 2000 inbox which resides on a remote machine. Is this possible? If yes, can anyone point me in the right direction e.g. which objects will help me accomplish this?

    Thanks.

Let’s imagine that the COM object will have access to Outlook 2000. If the remote PST already is part of a profile in Outlook, you can just log on to that profile and read the PST, regardless of location. This is not to say that you will have acceptable performance; even at 10MBps it could be horrendous. If you need to build the profile yourself, I’m not sure how you add a new PST to it. This might not be allowed in the object model.

If the COM object doesn’t have Outlook 2000 to automate, I’m not sure there is any way to read a PST file. I suppose maybe with CDO or extended MAPI??

Thanks for your help, I’ll have a go at it with the clues that you gave me, and hope for the best!

Jefferson, if it’s on an Exchange server, and the intent is only to access the Default Inbox Mailbox on the server, wouldn’t that be more accessible?

I don’t know anything about Exchange. If it’s an Exchange Inbox, there might be another interface entirely.
