The best way to manipulate the mini-metro screen in Windows 10 is to bury it under Classic Shell. Classic Shell can be configured to work exactly like the start menu in Windows 7.

Does Classic Shell hid the crap tile adverts as well?

Yep, you never have to see tiles at all unless you just want to.

+1 for Classic Shell. Some will argue what is the point of updating to Win10 if you are making it look like an older system. However if Microsoft doesn’t make this a function available on Win10 then that is one of few options you have.

Both Shell10 and Classic Shell are excellent choices.

I wonder how long this will last for though.

As MS are removing GPedit functionality to turn off the advertising garbage, there’s no reason to assume they wont act against Classic Shell to stop it functioning in the future.

I have no trust in MS whatsoever, they have turned themselves into a really despicable lowlife corporation.

Once Win7 deprecates, I’ll definitely move to Linux for online and keep the win box offline for real work.
