We have one 25U rack in the server room, sitting in the middle of the room with a 36″ wide wire storage shelves between it and the wall where the ports have been extended from the patch panel in the back corner. Over time it’s become a bit of a mess as you can see from the attached photl.
The idea was to someday replace the wire storage shelves with a 2nd rack. That time has come.
Right now the network cables from the 1st rack run behind the shelves to the ports on the wall. See pic. When I put the new 2nd rack in place of the shelves, there will be about 8 inches of clearance on either side of it. Of course, putting the 2nd rack there will be more of a block for the 1st rack’s access to the network ports.
One idea I’ve had is to run the network cables from the 1st rack through the inside of the 2nd rack and out the other side to the ports. Another idea is to run them up and over the top of the 2nd rack and down to the ports. Eventually I will need to add more ports to that extension so I suppose I could move the network port extension to somewhere else on that wall or ? if it was a better location for both rack.
What would be the best way to handle it?
