    Hi,

I have just recently upgraded to the pro in order to delay updates. What settings do you recommend? I currently have it at semi-annual targeted and 90 days for feature updates. I have the security updates set to 0 days.

While I’m at it, what is a good reference for familiarizing myself with group policy editing.

    Thanks

You would be better off waiting at least a one-half for security updates, unless it was an urgent need to install the update. I reckon (perhaps not so well), setting a delay right now would line up with another possible MS-DEFCON rating for this month’s patches.

If you a user who wants to get patching over a soon as possible then leave it at zero.

Thanks.  What does waiting a one half mean?

      The settings I use are:

      Settings>Update and Security>Windows Update
Advanced settings – Semi-Annual Channel, Delay Feature updates 365, Delay Quality updates 0 (zero), no Pause.

      Group Policy: Administrative Templates>Windows Components>Windows Update>
Configure Automatic Updates = Enabled, set value at 2 (Notify download/install)

With these settings, the Quality updates show up in the Windows Update queue when they are released, but they do not download until you click on “Download.” This way, you can see the updates and hide them with whshowhide.diagcab. Once hidden, then the Windows Update queue needs to be cleared (See AKB20000213 for the procedure). Once you clear the queue, check with wushowhide to verify only the updates you want are available and updating is safe.
