GuestJuly 11, 2020 at 11:18 am #2279365So if we’re building a brand new system from scratch (or having such a system built for us by a local very reliable vendor) which has NEVER seen an installation of Windows, would it be ok to install 2004 instead of 1909 at this point, provided that all of the latest hardware drivers are on hand?
BTW, all of the hardware has been manufactured/released within the last year.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 11, 2020 at 5:34 pm #2279427Installed all of the June updates, and wushowhide is not working for me on Win 10 home 1909. I hid the updates that I did not prefer and they installed anyway. The new Edge installed, so far no issues and a bunch of HP updates. At this point the best way to handle updates, is to pause, which have done so now until 8/15/20 in order to assure defcon acceptable. At that time I’m sure the updates correct themselves or provide an update to one that not working properly. I do miss Win 7 and the total control I had over the updates.
Also, no featured updates were noted, for the Win 2004 and also did NOT check for updates. I let the computer do it by itself since that pause from last month expired
So far so good, no issues, thanks for listening.

Wushowhide worked if you hid the updates.
What you didn’t do was clear the Windows Update queue after the hiding. If the updates are still showing in Windows Update, they will install even if you think you have hidden them. The procedure to clear the queue (so they no longer appear in the Update list) is in AKB2000013. Or you can just wait until Windows Update checks for updates on it’s own the next time after you have hidden the patches and they should be gone from the queue.

AskWoody LoungerJuly 11, 2020 at 6:30 pm #2279438I checked and they installed, and apologize for misuderstanding on my part. So many years with a comfort with Win 7! understanding correctly. So the computer pause was expired and the computer started to check on it’s own. I ran the wushowhide and they were apparently hidden, but installed anyway. Did not clear the cache properly. Right now the laptop is paused until 8/15/20. Understandably did not clear the cache! For now I have the following updates installed:
KB4559309 New Edge Update
Realtek Semiconductor Corp Media 6.0.8940.1 (HP)
HP Inc. HID Class 2.1.14.1-
HP Development Company LP System 7.0.16.1
2020-06 KB4561600 Flash Player
2020-06 KB4560960 Win 10 Update
Presuming that all were needed, will move on till next month and be sure to clear cache!

AskWoody_MVPJuly 11, 2020 at 6:12 pm #2279436I’m waiting for the next reason that Windows 10.2004 update gets blocked: hardware, drivers, unapproved software, insufficient memory, uninstalled updates, too many peripherals, features off, features removed, software conflicts, insufficient hard drive space, anti-virus conflicts, and thunderstorms.

MemberJuly 11, 2020 at 6:37 pm #2279440I might have the wrong impression about 2004, but from what I have been seeing (with the corner of my eye) written here about it, and for quite a while now, I can’t help wondering if, for the users of Win 10, not being able to install this update is really such a bad thing. Just saying.
